Gallagher’s Improved Form Could Be Key in EPL Relegation Scrap
Tottenham Hotspur moved out of the Premier League’s drop zone with a vital victory at Villa Park on Sunday. Conor Gallagher was instrumental, sending Spurs on their way with a stunning strike and running the show in midfield.
Back-to-Back Victories for Spurs
Roberto De Zerbi is making the right impact at Tottenham, picking up seven points from his opening four fixtures in charge. Since drawing with Brighton & Hove Albion at home, Tottenham have secured back-to-back away wins.
Despite Aston Villa’s weakened team, Spurs were the underdogs at Villa Park before a ball was kicked. However, they put in the best performance of their season so far, sealing a much-needed 2-1 win.
Gallagher opened the scoring with a smart strike after just 12 minutes. The Londoners continued their dominance, and Richarlison doubled their advantage shortly after. Emiliano Buendia’s late header was no more than a consolation for Villa.
Gallagher Hitting Form at Just the Right Time
Gallagher was one of the best midfielders in the Premier League when he was captain of Chelsea before heading to Atletico Madrid. However, he struggled to adapt to life at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The 26-year-old, who has won 22 caps for England, has started every game under De Zerbi, and his form has been superb in the engine room of Tottenham’s midfield.
Gallagher’s opener at Villa Park was his first goal in the Premier League since netting in a 5-0 win against West Ham United as a Chelsea player in May 2024. The combative midfielder got his goal and was outstanding in the middle of the park.
The back-to-back wins have lifted Spurs out of the relegation zone, one point above rivals West Ham. There is still a long way to go, but seven points from the last three matches is brilliant form.
Next up, Tottenham host Leeds United, who are six points ahead of Spurs in 14th. Can De Zerbi’s boys make it three wins in a row?
