Gakpo Hot on Spurs Radar as Savinho Pursuit Continues

Spurs are preparing to step up their efforts to bring Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo to north London.

Gakpo has been one of manager Roberto de Zerbi’s top targets all summer, while the club have already spent big to bring in Sandro Tonali from Newcastle and Mateus Fernandes from West Ham.

And the Tottenham spending spree is showing no signs of slowing down, with upwards of £75 million being earmarked for the purchase of Gakpo, who has scored 50 goals in 180 appearances for the Reds.

The Dutchman also found the net against Sweden and Morocco as his side were knocked out by the latter at the last-32 stage.

Liverpool are in something of a transitional phase, with new boss Andoni Iraola keen to stamp his mark on a side that finished fifth in the Premier League last season.

Gakpo isn’t a player identified by Iraola as one he would be keen to move on, but following the acquisition of Osasuna winger Victor Munoz, it could make sense to move him on to fund a possible replacement for Mo Salah.

Salah departed Anfield after a glittering nine years on Merseyside, and his absence leaves a big hole in a Liverpool forward line that will also start the season without striker Hugo Ekitike, who continues his recovery from an achilles injury.

Spurs, meanwhile, are also keen on a move for Man City winger Savinho.

The Brazilian is deemed surplus to requirements at the Etihad and was courted by Tottenham last summer.

It’s believed a fee of around £60 million will be enough to get the deal done for the 22-year-old, who managed only 14 starts for City last season.
