Emiliano Martinez Heading for Shock Move to Chelsea

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez looks to be heading for Chelsea after the clubs reportedly agreed on a £7.5m deal.
Having fallen down the pecking order at Villa Park after Zion Sukuzi’s arrival, Martinez is expected to leave the Midlands club before the window shuts.
Martinez Moving to Chelsea
Aston Villa and Chelsea have reportedly agreed on a £7.5m deal for stopper Martinez. The Argentina international was not even in the squad for Villa’s embarrassing 4-0 loss at Brighton & Hove Albion on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.
Martinez played every minute of Argentina’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, helping his nation reach a second consecutive final. However, he has been linked with a move away from Villa Park ever since returning from North America.
Juventus were said to be interested in Martinez, but the Italian giants opted for Guglielmo Vicario instead. Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United were also being mentioned.
However, it looks as though Chelsea have won the race, and the London club will be eager to get the deal finalised as quickly as possible.
Could Martinez Be the Missing Jigsaw Piece in Chelsea’s Puzzle?
New boss Xabi Alonso has already made several high-profile signings this summer, with the £117m-deal for Villa’s Morgan Rogers topping the bill. The Blues have one of the strongest attacking lineups in the EPL but still look fragile in defence.
Current No. 1 Robert Sanchez has had a tough time at Stamford Bridge since moving from Brighton in 2023. He has never looked comfortable in the Chelsea jersey, and the Spaniard was shaky in the Blues’ 3-2 win against Fulham on Monday.
If Chelsea want to bring UEFA Champions League football back to the Bridge and challenge for the biggest trophies, bringing in a world-class goalkeeper is a priority.
Martinez has been one of the best stoppers on the planet over the past few years, and he could be the perfect signing for Alonso’s budding Blues.
