Coventry Claim First Premier League Win Since 2001

After a tough start to life back in the Premier League, Coventry City finally picked up their first win back in the top flight.

The victory at Nottingham Forest ended the losing streak and goal drought and lifted the Sky Blues off the foot of the Premier League table going into the first international break.

City Win at City Ground

Frank Lampard’s men were superior in the EFL Championship last term, winning the league with 95 points and 97 goals. However, they have found the Premier League step up tough going so far.

Coventry lost their opening four EPL matches with a 10-0 aggregate score. City were beaten by Arsenal, Hull City, Manchester City, and Brighton & Hove Albion, failing to score a single goal.

However, that all changed at the City Ground on Saturday evening, as Coventry picked up a priceless three points. Jay Dasilva netted after 55 minutes to seal a 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest.

There were positive signs before that, as they played okay at Arsenal and only lost by one at Man City. Lampard’s troops also won 4-2 at Plymouth Argyle in the Carabao Cup.

City are now hoping the win at Forest will kick-start their league campaign.

Sky Blues Host Newcastle After Break

Instead of dwelling on another defeat, Coventry can go into the first international break of the season in high spirits. That said, Lampard and his staff have a lot to work on over the next three weeks.

City return to Premier League action on Monday, 12th September, welcoming Newcastle United to the Coventry Building Society Arena. After winning away from home, can the Midlands club pick up their first home top-flight victory since April 2001?

After the Newcastle game, Coventry make the trip to London to take on fellow strugglers Tottenham Hotspur. It is still early in the season, but that already feels like a huge fixture for both sides.
