Cagey Day Sees Five Premier League Draws

Manchester City continued their 100% Premier League record with a 1-0 victory over Ipswich, in a day that saw five draws from seven top-flight matches. 

Cherries Lose Grip on Another Lead

Bournemouth surrendered a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Newcastle in the lunchtime kick-off. Marcus Tavernier and an unfortunate Malick Thiaw own goal put the Cherries on their way, but goals at the end of both halves from Harvey Barnes and Jacob Ramsey means the visitors have already dropped seven points from winning positions this season.

In the three o’clocks, Brentford remain unbeaten after being pegged back in a 1-1 draw with Sunderland. Vitaly Janelt opened the scoring for the hosts early in the second half but the Black Cats claimed a deserved point in the 82nd minute courtesy of an Enzo le Fee penalty.

Brighton and Leeds also shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw on the south coast. Jayden Bogle tapped home inside 15 minutes after Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s header was saved, but after missing chances to extend their lead, Luka Vuskovic headed home his first Brighton goal with 20 minutes to go.

Over at the Etihad, Erling Haaland’s 26th minute goal was enough to give City three points against Coventry, but they had to ride their luck as Loum Tchaouna and Ellis Simms missed great chances to give the visitors a surprise point late on.

Crystal Palace clinched their first win of the season as Ben Chilwell scored the winner against Fulham, despite the Cottagers twice taking the lead through Josh King and Cesar Palacios. The result leaves Alvaro Arbeloa’s side second-bottom of the table.

Goals at a Premium

And there was still time for two more stalemates.

At the City Ground, Nottingham Forest and Spurs shared the spoils in a goalless draw. Neco Williams thought he’d bundled home the winner in the 65th minute but VAR ruled it out for handball. The point is Spurs’ first of the season.

And finally, Hull ended the day second in the Premier League table after a 0-0 draw with Aston Villa. Both sides had chances to win it, with Hull’s Oli McBurnie spurning an opportunity late on, after visiting John McGinn chipped over with only the keeper to beat.
