Bournemouth Book Spot in Europe as Iraola Says Farewell
After a dramatic draw with Manchester City on Tuesday night, Bournemouth secured their spot in Europe for next season. It was a fitting end for Andoni Iraola, who said farewell to the Vitality Stadium on an emotional night in the Premier League.
Bournemouth Seal Europe and Hand Gunners EPL Title
It was a huge night in the Premier League, as the 1-1 draw at the Vitality handed the Premier League title to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal. The Gunners dominated the news, but Bournemouth’s European heroics cannot be overstated.
The Cherries nearly went out of business and were plying their trade in the fourth tier less than two decades ago, but the club have been on a remarkable rise over the past few years.
Getting into Europe was unthinkable, but the Vitality will host European football next season, as Bournemouth will finish no lower than seventh in the Premier League table.
They can still sneak into the UEFA Champions League, but Liverpool’s superior goal difference should see the Reds take fifth spot. Furthermore, Brighton & Hove Albion are three points behind the Cherries in seventh with a better goal difference, so sixth place is likely.
Can Rose Continue the Rise?
Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Man City was Iraola’s final home match in charge of Bournemouth. The Spaniard has chosen to leave at the end of this season, and guiding the club to Europe is a fitting way to end a fairytale tenure.
Rose has been appointed on a three-year contract at the Vitality and will officially take over this summer. The German has vast experience, coaching the likes of Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig.
Rose is a big name in Europe, and Bournemouth have pulled off quite the coup in persuading the 49-year-old to come to England. However, kicking on from Iraola’s success will not be an easy task.
Bournemouth end the 2025-26 Premier League season this Sunday with a trip to the City Ground to take on Nottingham Forest. Can Iraola sign off with another three points?
