Bournemouth Announces Change and Other Managerial News
The English Premier League season is winding down but one thing that hasn’t slowed is the changing of the guard. Entering Tuesday, there have already been 13 managerial changes that have taken place this season.
Granted, a handful of those changes involved caretaker managers moving aside for a more full-time leader. The fact remains that we’ve seen a ton of upheaval this season. What’s also clear is that the winds of change haven’t finished blowing at this point.
Bournemouth Latest to Announce Change
Bournemouth, arguably one of the hottest sides in the league right now, will have a new manager come next season. They are unbeaten in 13 straight matches dating back to early January and stand eighth in the table. Bournemouth beat Arsenal 2-1 on the road last week and just three days later, Andoni Iraola announced that he would be leaving his post at the end of the season.
Iraola has been with Bournemouth since June 2023 and has a record of 45 wins, 37 draws and 40 losses. On Monday, Bournemouth announced his replacement for next season. Marco Rose, who has had plenty of success in Austria and Germany, agreed to terms on a three-year deal to take over the squad. Rose’s last managerial job was with RB Leipzig of the German Bundeslinga. He managed them from September 2022 to March 2025, posting a record of 72 wins, 23 draws and 33 losses.
Rose was the top choice for Bournemouth, who were reportedly also considering Kieran McKenna of Ipwisch Town for the role. As for Iraola, his name will certainly be bandied about for potential jobs this summer.
Other Managerial Rumblings
Now that Bournemouth is settled, there still are reports of a couple openings that will need to be addressed in the offseason. Crystal Palace and Oliver Glasner will part ways at the end of the year, meaning that job will be open. Glasner has a record of 48 wins, 34 draws and 30 defeats since taking over in February 2024. He declined to renew his deal and has said that he is seeking a new challenge at this point of his career.
In addition, it’s unclear if Manchester United, which has played well since January, will keep Michael Carrick or go in a different direction. The Red Devils are third in the table and are poised for another run in the Champions League next season. Is Carrick the long-term solution or is this just the honeymoon phase?
Furthermore, there are rumblings that a couple of bluebloods could be considering changes. Arne Slot has seen Liverpool crumple in domestic play of late. While they won the Premier League last season, the fact that they are just fifth in the table has caused some grumbling. Could he really be in trouble if the Reds wind up finishing there after hoisting the trophy last season?
Speaking of struggling sides, Chelsea has slumped of late as well. The Blues have dropped to a three-way tie for sixth in the table. After going 4-0-2 in their first six matches under Liam Rosenior, the Blues have dropped four straight and five of six. They haven’t scored in their last four Premier League matches. Will Chelsea make a move for someone else if they can’t close the year strong?
