Brighton & Hove Albion kept up their excellent form with a stunning win at the Etihad Stadium. Are the Seagulls genuine title contenders?
United Lose Again
Manchester United suffered another defeat on Saturday, losing 2-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The loss in London has left the Red Devils in 17th place in the Premier League.
After a goalless first half, Chelsea sprang into life in the second period, with goals from Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer enough for a 2-0 Blues win.
The pressure is mounting on Michael Carrick, who is on the brink of losing his job. Man United are level on points with Crystal Palace in the relegation zone.
Seagulls Fly Away from Etihad with Maximum Points
Brighton continue to impress, and Saturday’s 1-0 win at Manchester City was the result of the EPL weekend.
The Seagulls took City to penalties in the cup in midweek, eventually losing the shootout. However, they were out for revenge on Saturday, and Yasin Ayari’s goal gave Fabian Hurzeler’s boys a deserved 1-0 win at the Etihad.
Brighton closed the gap on Man City to just two points. Overall, Albion have won six, drawn one, and lost two of their opening nine Premier League fixtures.
Gunners Edge Frantic Anfield Affair
Liverpool and Arsenal locked horns in the standout game of the weekend. Only one goal was scored, but it was an entertaining matchup at Anfield, with the champions leaving with the points.
Kai Havertz tapped home after 16 minutes to give Arsenal an early lead. Both teams had their chances, but Mikel Arteta’s boys held on for a valuable three points.
With City losing at home to Brighton, the Londoners have moved three points clear at the top of the Premier League table and are looking good.
