Arsenal Still Favourites to Win Premier League Title

As we enter the first international break of the season, Manchester City lead the way in the Premier League on maximum points, with champions Arsenal three points behind in second.

The Gunners had made a sensational start on all fronts, but last weekend’s embarrassing defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion brought Mikel Arteta’s men back down to earth.

Gunners Humbled at the Amex

Arsenal kicked off their 2026-27 season with seven straight wins in all competitions. They won their opening four in the Premier League, seeing off Coventry City, Aston Villa, Chelsea, and Sunderland.

Arsenal went into last weekend’s game at Brighton & Hove Albion in high spirits, but the champions were humbled at the Amex Stadium. The in-form Seagulls picked up a deserved victory to end Arsenal’s winning run.

The London side were uncharacteristically poor on the south coast, with Pascal Gross, Charalampos Kostoulas, and Chema Andres on target in a 3-0 win for the hosts.

City on Maximum Points in EPL

Enzo Maresca’s Man City reign got off to a losing start, as the Citizens were easily beaten by Arsenal in the FA Community Shield. Goals from Riccardo Calafiori, Kai Havertz, and Martin Odegaard gave the Gunners a resounding 3-0 win in Cardiff.

Man City have been faultless since, though, winning six league and cup games in a row. After last weekend’s 5-3 home victory over Sunderland, City are the only team left in the EPL with a 100% winning record.

We may only be a few weeks into the new campaign, but the title battle already looks like a two-horse race between Arsenal and Man City.

The champions remain the favourites despite the slip-up at Brighton, but Maresca’s men have certainly closed the gap in the odds market.

Man City return to action after the break with a tough trip to Anfield, while Arsenal welcome Leeds United to the Emirates Stadium.
