Red Bull Boss Laurent Mekies Signs New Deal Until 2031

Red Bull boss Laurent Mekies has signed a new, long-term deal that will keep him as team principal until at least 2031.
The Frenchman has overseen a period of significant transition since replacing Christian Horner in 2025, guiding the team back toward front‑running form after a challenging start to the 2026 Formula 1 season.
With Max Verstappen returning to winning ways and the car showing clear development gains, Red Bull’s leadership group believes Mekies is central to their renewed momentum.
Laurent Mekies and Red Bull: Long‑Term Commitment to Stability
Red Bull’s shareholders, Chalerm Yoovidhya and Mark Mateschitz, said Mekies had “played a crucial role in guiding the team through an important period of transition while maintaining the competitive spirit and the Red Bull principles that define us.”
Their statement emphasised confidence in his leadership and a shared belief in the team’s long‑term direction. The extension follows Verstappen’s own contract renewal to 2030, signalling a unified approach to the future after months of speculation surrounding both driver and team.
Mekies’ impact has been most visible in recent races. After early‑season struggles, Red Bull’s upgrades have delivered a dramatic turnaround, culminating in dominant wins for Verstappen in Malaysia and Singapore.
Those victories arrived shortly after Christian Horner publicly suggested the team had “lost its mojo, its presence, its vibe,” comments that contrasted sharply with Red Bull’s on‑track resurgence.
Mekies said he felt “incredibly proud to continue this journey,” highlighting the unity and shared ambition within the organisation.
Red Bull’s Future Direction and Verstappen’s Role
The decision to lock in Mekies until 2031 reflects Red Bull’s desire to build a stable foundation for the next era.
With new regulations approaching and rivals strengthening, the team is prioritising leadership consistency and long‑term planning. Verstappen’s contract extension reinforces that strategy, ensuring Red Bull retain their star driver during a period of major technical change.
The recent performance upswing suggests the team is already benefiting from that stability, and both leadership and driver continuity position Red Bull strongly for the seasons ahead.
