Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari faced a difficult Singapore Grand Prix, with the seven‑time champion apologising after choosing a strategy that cost the team a potential double podium.

Ferrari had been on course for second and third, but Hamilton’s decision to stay out under the Virtual Safety Car left him vulnerable on worn tyres, and he slipped to sixth by the flag.

The result also had major implications for the title fight, with Kimi Antonelli extending his championship lead heading into Austin.

Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari: Strategy Error Proves Costly

Hamilton overruled Ferrari’s call to pit under the VSC, later admitting he “missed the entry” and then chose to remain on track to defend position. The gamble backfired as tyre degradation intensified, allowing three cars to pass him in the closing laps. He told the team: “Sorry, boys… my call, and I lost us valuable points.”

Team principal Frédéric Vasseur said Hamilton simply realised too late that staying out was the wrong choice, adding that mistakes happen across the garage and the focus must now be on moving forward.

Ferrari’s strategy had been built around stopping both cars under the VSC to save time, but Hamilton’s earlier stint on medium tyres had already compromised his race. He had hoped the softer compound would allow him to defend track position, yet the tyre drop‑off proved too severe.

Antonelli Nears Title as Verstappen and Mercedes Look Ahead

Hamilton’s error helped Antonelli strengthen his championship position. The Italian finished third behind Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc, extending his advantage over George Russell to 102 points and over Hamilton to 111.

Mercedes continue to evaluate their recent upgrade after splitting specifications between cars in Singapore. Antonelli said the new package shows promise but remains sensitive to driving style, while Russell stressed the team must “go back to winning ways” after Red Bull’s resurgence.

Verstappen, meanwhile, celebrated his second straight win and praised Red Bull’s improved driveability.
