Arsenal Trophy Odds Tumble Following Semi Success
What a 24 hours it has been for Arsenal.
Monday saw the Premier League title chase fall back in North London hands after Man City failed to beat Everton on Merseyside.
And things got even better for Mikel Arteta’s men last night, as they beat Atletico Madrid 1-0 at the Emirates to reach the Champions’ League Final for the first time in two decades.
It was by no means a classic - it was never going to be in a second leg featuring Diego Simeone - but Arsenal won’t care one jot as they showed an ugly side that many say has been the missing ingredient of Gunners sides in years gone by.
So it was perhaps fitting that a scrappy goal decided the tie. Viktor Gyokeres rounded Atleti keeper Jan Oblak and crossed for Leandro Trossard. The Belgian worked himself a yard before his shot was parried into the grateful path of Bukayo Saka, who tapped home from close range.
Arsenal will now turn their attention to the second semi-final second leg in Bavaria, where Bayern Munich will be hoping to turn around a 5-4 deficit against PSG, following a remarkable first leg in the French capital last week.
Events of the past two days have seen Arsenal’s odds tumble across both the Premier League and Champions League.
Domestically, Arteta’s side are now as short as 1/5 to maintain their lead at the top and win a first Premier League title since the Invincibles season of 2003/04.
And on the continent, they’re now 11/8 favourites - leaping ahead of Bayern in the betting - to lift a maiden Champions League crown. We expect these odds to change upon the result in Munich tonight, but regardless of their opponent in the final, whether Arsenal go into the game as favourites or underdogs, there will be nothing in it.
