Champions League Predictions Today, April 8: Sides

Paris Saint-Germain to Win In Full Time (1.73): Liverpool has stumbled of late as they are winless in their last three Premier League matches. What’s even more daunting for the Reds is that their starting keeper, Alisson Becker is dealing with a hamstring injury. He won’t take part in either fixture against PSG, which forces Giorgi Mamardashvili into action with their Champions League life hanging in the balance.

Paris Saint-Germain has played well of late. They outlasted Monaco in the knockout phase of the playoffs before hammering Chelsea in the round of 16. PSG is very good at home and is dangerous on the offensive side of the pitch. Liverpool can’t keep up and finds themselves in dire straits heading into the second leg next week.

Barcelona to Win in Full Time (1.55): We saw these two sides meet in La Liga action over the weekend with Barcelona emerging victorious by a 2-1 margin. Barcelona is a high-octane offensive unit, having racked up 80 goals in their 30 matches on the year. That is 16 more than the second-place squad of Real Madrid. Atlético Madrid got here as a 14 seed. They downed 19th-seeded Club Brugge by a 7-4 aggregate in the knockout phase of the playoffs. Atleti followed that with by knocking out fourth-seeded Tottenham Hotspur by a 7-5 aggregate.

This is a rough stretch of the calendar for Atlético Madrid, who has faced Real Madrid and Barcelona in La Liga action recently. They now have the two legs of this quarterfinal with Barcelona along with a La Liga clash with Sevilla. Throw in a tilt with Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey final and that’s quite a murderer’s row to deal with in a short time span. Barcelona’s firepower is too much here.

Champions League Best Bets Today, April 8: Other

Barcelona to Win and Both Teams to Score (2.29): We already talked about why we see Barcelona winning in this one. They are an explosive offensive side and they play with their foot on the gas for a full 90 minutes. The flip side of that is that they tend to give the opposition chances. Their aggressive attack leads to some breaks when they turn the ball over. While Atleti isn’t as imposing of an offensive side as Barcelona, they still can find the back of the net. We’ve seen Barça struggle to slow opposing sides in Champions League play. They’ve given up at least one goal in 13 straight Champions League matches. That trend continues here.

Barcelona Over 8.5 Corners (2.63): Atleti’s best strategy here, given the strain that the schedule grind has taken on them, is to take what Barcelona throws at them and concede corners. That has been part of their game when the two sides clashed of late. These two teams have met three times since the beginning of February. In those meetings, Barça racked up a staggering 32 corners. They’ve had at least eight corners in each of those meetings. Given what’s at stake, Atleti will concede corners rather than give up point blank scoring chances. Take the over here as Barcelona gets nine or 10 corners.

Ousmane Dembélé, Paris Saint-Germain Anytime Goal Scorer (1.91): Dembélé has scored 10 goals in 17 matches in Ligue 1 play. That has him tied with Bradley Barcola for the top mark on the team. He’s tallied two goals and an assist in Champions League play. Dembélé won the Ballon d’Or last season for his efforts. With Barcola missing in this fixture, he’ll be looked at to step up. He tallied twice against Toulouse Friday in Ligue 1 action. Dembélé is more likely than not to find the back of the net for PSG here.
