Ed Quigley

Horse Racing Writer

Ed Quigley is a horse racing expert at TheLines. He loves his horse racing and attended the Cheltenham Festival from a very young age. However, Ed’s first ‘proper’ racing memory was when Garrison Savannah wilted inside the closing stages of the 1991 Grand National, being caught late on by Seagram. Time flies, but Ed has retained the racing bug ever since!

Ed Quigley Expertise

Let’s dive into Ed’s areas of expertise:

National Hunt Racing

National Hunt Racing is Ed’s forte. As a Cheltenham native he is next door to the home of jumps racing and very much in the zone.

Antepost Markets

Antepost markets are where Ed really enjoys himself. Jumps racing is a puzzle, and the early markets offer up plenty of conjecture and study. Bedtime reading is a must!

Flat Horse Racing

Ed has a keen interest on the flat side of things, too, and has covered events from the likes of Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood.

Golf

Beyond horse racing, Ed likes his music and is a golf fanatic. He has held various positions over the years being involved with golf podcasts.

FAQ

Why did you decide to become a horse racing journalist?
I had the option of doing that or working for the government. I chose the more exciting option, obviously!
How do you research and verify the information in your articles?
I have a ‘bank’ of notes and reminders, but mainly just look at the detail of each horse online and go from there!
What is most important for you when writing horse racing content?
You want it to be fairly engaging and not be too long unless it’s biographical. If it’s a race preview, it almost seems silly to provide an extensive piece and not offer an opinion on who you think will win it at the end.
How do you stay up to date with sports, leagues, and events you cover?
At The Races and Racing Post have most things covered, but social media often has you covered first! Such is the way of life.
