UCLA vs. Michigan State Prediction, Picks and Best Bets for Tonight’s NCAAW Game
Michigan State’s suddenly struggling at home, having taken back-to-back losses in the Breslin Center. The Spartans still have a shot at hosting the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament, but they need to stack some wins to get into the top 16.
Beating UCLA would be a big one, but nobody’s done that since Texas. The Bruins took a close call at Michigan, and even that’s rare for them. Michigan State likely gets a far more focused UCLA team on Wednesday, making this a difficult assignment for the home team.

UCLA vs. Michigan State Prediction
Best Bet: UCLA -14.5 (-110, BetMGM)
UCLA is coming off its closest win of the season, a three-point victory at Michigan. Michigan State has also faced the Wolverines, with the Spartans falling by three in overtime.
But the difference between those games comes in how they were won. UCLA won without a deep threat against the Wolverines, as Lauren Betts and Kiki Rice found good looks inside of the perimeter. Michigan beat Michigan State by shooting 41% from behind the arc, and the Spartans kept it close by hitting 6-for-13.
UCLA is not going to need to settle for 3-point looks against Michigan State. The Bruins have the matchup nightmare that is Betts, who has a four-inch disparity between her and Michigan State’s tallest player. She didn’t have a good game against Michigan despite 16 points and 12 rebounds, and she rarely has consecutive off nights. This looks like a big night for her, and if it is, Michigan State won’t be able to keep pace.

- Kiki Rice Over 24.5 Points + Rebounds
UCLA’s defense is frightening to play against. The Bruins have only allowed three teams — Ohio State, Tennessee and Texas — to top 69 points against them. Having Betts in the paint takes away options for a lot of teams, but Rice’s defense cannot be overlooked. She’s capable of defending the perimeter as well as down low, and she’s got quick hands to go with her feet.
Up To $1500 in Bonus Bets Paid Back if your First Bet Does Not Win Her versatility gives UCLA another strong rebounding option to go with Betts, which means missing long shots won’t work against the Bruins. Rice averages 6.4 rebounds per night, and she’s scored at least 17 points in three straight games. She’s finding her looks, and Michigan State isn’t going to be able to check her unless it gives up completely on stopping Betts underneath.
Michigan State will likely have to come up with a backup plan for this game. The Spartans like to let their offense flow through Grace VanSlooten, but Betts’ presence likely cuts off that option. Most teams can’t adjust to the combination of Betts and Rice, and the Spartans’ struggles with some of the Big Ten’s weaker teams suggests that they won’t either.
VanSlooten averages 15.5 points a night for the Spartans. If she’s not able to do that because of Betts, Michigan State won’t have anywhere near its normal offensive night. That puts this game in prime under territory.
