UCLA vs Saint Mary’s (CA) Betting Odds

by Ryan Minion

The Bruins, who are coming off a Final Four appearance in 2021, barely escaped with a win in their first round matchup versus the 13th seeded Akron Zips. On the contrary, the Gales absolutely demolished Indiana in their first-round matchup, only having trailed once in the entire game, ultimately winning by 29 points.

UCLA struggled mightily on offense in their First Round matchup versus fourteenth-seeded Akron. They trailed at half and for the majority of the second half, until a late offensive surge by Tyger Campbell. Bruins’ star Guard Johnny Juzang shot 3-for-11 from the field, contributing to their total 35.2 FG%.

The Gaels were on the complete opposite side of the spectrum for UCLA, shooting a total FG% of 52, and nearly 50% from beyond the arc as well. Guards Logan Johnson & Tommy Kuhse led the way with twenty and nineteen points respectively.

The Bruins are not in great form, having gotten badly outplayed by Arizona in the Pac-12 championship, in addition to now barely escaping an Akron team they are significantly better than. I expect UCLA’s recent offensive struggles to continue versus a St. Mary’s team clicking on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball.

I will be betting St. Mary’s to cover as 3-point underdogs against UCLA.
