College Basketball Best Bets Indiana Wisconsin

There are 11 ranked teams in action on Tuesday’s college hoops slate, including No. 15 Wisconsin at Indiana. Let’s break down my college basketball best bets for this important Big 10 matchup, as the Hoosiers are sliding down March Madness projections following three straight losses.

Wisconsin Badgers at Indiana Hoosiers

On the surface, the Hoosiers could be considered slightly overvalued after closing as a 4.5/5-point underdog at the Badgers on Dec. 8. But let’s factor in Indiana’s 22-point blown lead in that game, Assembly Hall’s significant home-court advantage and an ideal bounce-back spot.

Combine those aspects with Wisconsin ranking No. 8 in KenPom’s luck factor, and the spread is completely justified.

  • Luck rating is the discrepancy in winning percentage between a team’s actual record and its expected record.

Expect a motivated effort from Mike Woodson’s team, especially Trayce Jackson-Davis. The 6-foot-9 forward has tallied 36 total points during the losing skid, shooting 35.3% from the field. He was also held to nine points in the first matchup.

Moreover, the Badgers have struggled to defend post-ups throughout Big 10 play. Look for the Hoosiers to feed Jackson-Davis early on, which should open up their perimeter attack throughout. Greg Gard’s unit is allowing the conference’s fifth-highest open 3-point rate (via ShotQuality).

At the other end, Wisconsin runs plenty of off-ball action to free up Wooden Award candidate Johnny Davis () and Brad Davison. However, Indiana’s pressure defense limits cuts and dribble penetration while forcing opponents to score from behind the arc.

Unlike traditional Badgers offenses, they rank dead-last in perimeter shooting across the Big 10 (30.8%). Unless Davis & Co. receive some unexpected shooting variance, the Hoosiers’ defense is primed to revive itself.

Even if Indiana point guard Rob Phinisee (ankle) remains out, back the favorite around a possession in a must-win spot.
