Kentucky Derby 2024: Track Phantom Horse Racing Profile

Track Phantom horse

Track Phantom is a well-run horse who projects to fall in the middle of 2024 Kentucky Derby odds. The frontrunner set the pace in March’s Louisiana Derby but was outlasted by top horses like Catching Freedom down the final stretch. The Steve Asmussen product has improved over his seven starts but hasn’t shown the ability to defeat the top competition he’ll see in the Run for the Roses. Don’t count Track Phantom out for exotics, as his Beyer Speed Figures tell the story of a consistent horse who, if he sets a fast enough pace at Churchill Downs, could land on the board with favorable odds.

The Word On Track Phantom

Apr. 27: Opened at 20-1 on the morning line, running out of Post 12.

Apr. 7: Closed 30-1 in the middle of the pack in April’s Kentucky Derby futures pool. He has the numbers to shorten that number but has been beaten out by top-grade talent multiple times, including those projected to be in the Field of 20.

Mar. 23: He had a good start out of Gate 12 as a 2-1 favorite, setting the pace and maintaining the lead for most of the length. However, he was run down by presumed Kentucky Derby favorite Catching Freedom. He ended up missing the board by a nose, losing ground in the final couple dozen meters.
