FedEx Cup PGA TOUR Championship Picks: Why I’m Betting Shane Lowry Without Strokes
TOUR Championship odds are available at golf betting sites, with the tournament beginning Thursday at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia. While Shane Lowry is not one of the favorites to win the FedEx Cup, there is still plenty of value to consider him as a contender in the “Shadow Leaderboard” market without starting strokes as he looks to conclude his strong 2024 season on a high note. Here are all the reasons why I’m using him this week in my TOUR Championship picks at East Lake Golf Club.
I’ve already locked him onto my TOUR Championship outright betting card (available in TheLines.com’s free Discord).

Editor’s Note
WHY I like shane lowry to WIN THE BMW CHAMPIONSHIP
For all intents and purposes, the TOUR Championship is the pot of golf waiting at the end of the proverbial rainbow to reward those most deserving after a long 2024 season. In that sense, who better than Irishman Shane Lowry to reap the benefits of said pot of gold?
Lowry has had a resurgent 2024 season, which has surprisingly earned him his first career appearance at East Lake. He won’t know what he’s been missing after all the extensive restoration work done ahead of this week’s event, and I see that as a positive. While the rest of the contenders in the field may feel a bit disoriented playing a familiar-yet-different venue, Lowry comes in to Atlanta, Georgia with a clean slate.
The Florida resident has played some of his best golf on Bermuda, with his three best finishes – 1st at the Zurich Classic, 3rd at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, T4 at the Cognizant Classic – coming in this part of the country. An accurate driver with streaky irons and great touch around the greens, the new and improved East Lake Golf Club is a perfect fit for Lowry’s game, as Andrew Green’s restoration work was done with the intention of combatting bomb-and-gouge with faster-rolling fairways and strategically placed bunkers. I believe we are getting a nice discount on Lowry’s Shadow Leaderboard price simply by way of a lack of course history, when in reality, this could be the fit course fit for Lowry’s game we’ve seen yet.
Recent Form
Lowry played himself out of the BMW Championship with an opening round 75, but rebounded nicely, shooting 8-under-par over his last three days. I’ll give him a one-day pass for adjusting to the altitude change, and still feel encouraged by his form leading in after a T13 finish at Castle Pines. That marks his fourth top-20 finish over his last seven starts, which includes the U.S. Open and The Open. Lowry continues to show great ball-striking form, ranking top-10 in the field in terms of both Driving Accuracy and SG: Approach.
Statistically, Lowry ranks top 10 in this field in:
- Driving Accuracy
- SG: Approach
- Bogey Avaoidance
- Comp Course History
Lowry ranks No. 11 overall in my model this week. All of these reasons are why I love Shane Lowry’s chances to lead the TOUR Championship without starting strokes this week.
