Falcons vs. Eagles Betting Preview
The big problem for the Falcons is Kirk Cousins’ lack of mobility. Coming off an Achilles injury that ended his 2023 season, Cousins could barely move in Week 1. Raheem Morris is claiming that Cousins’ issues weren’t related to the injury and are more rust-related, but with the greatest amount of respect, that’s what he has to say. Taking coach-speak as gospel here seems like a mistake.
The Eagles pass rush wasn’t immensely successful against Green Bay in Week 1, but that’s not particularly concerning for Philly fans. The Packers avoided significant pressure and only gave up 2 sacks by having Jordan Love be on the move constantly. Kirk Cousins wasn’t exactly the world’s most mobile quarterback on a good day. It’s highly unlikely this will represent a particularly good one for him.
On the other side of the ball, the Packers game showed the virtue of the Saquon Barkley addition for the Eagles. His dual-threat usage was real and gave the Eagles’ offense reliability that Jalen Hurts didn’t have late last year. It’s one game, against a defense nobody would class as elite, but it’s a reassuring start for the Eagles.
Defenses To The Rescue?
The Falcons defense was good against the Steelers, ranking 9th by EPA and 11th by Success Rate. The problem is they faced Justin Fields. It’s hard to penalize a unit for playing a mediocre QB, and the Falcons did their job. However, they’re facing a real quality increase here.
Additionally, the most interesting thing about this game is the Eagles defense was 13th by Success Rate in Week 1, but 25th by EPA. Green Bay burned them on a few deep plays, which generally took a long time to develop. Outside of those plays, however, they were good, against a good QB. Whether or not Kirk Cousins can let those plays develop long enough to strike big is the question.
I don’t think he can. I think the Eagles are going to put him on his back at every opportunity. And that’s why I’ve bet Philadelphia. Best of luck with the Fanatics Sportsbook Promo!
