The Hero World Challenge at Albany Golf Course in The Bahamas may not be a major, but it will command the attention of the sports world this week like few other PGA TOUR events can. That is because, for the first time since The Masters in April 2023, Tiger Woods will be teeing it up in a competitive PGA TOUR event. Tiger tees off at 11:52 a.m. ET Thursday with Justin Thomas. TV and streaming coverage runs from 12:30-4:30 p.m. ET on Golf Channel and Peacock. In this article, we’ll analyze Tiger Woods odds.

What are the realistic expectations for Tiger Woods in his first PGA TOUR event in seven months? Can we identify the best bets across the Tiger Woods betting markets available at legal sportsbooks for those interested in some action on El Tigre?

How healthy is Tiger Woods?

We should not expect to see a 100% healthy Tiger Woods this week, and it’s fair to question if we ever will again for the rest of his playing career as lingering injuries pile on top of his surgically repaired leg. Since returning in 2022, Tiger has attested that he’s healthy enough to hit the golf shots he wants to but has struggled to handle walking for 72 holes.

In his first press conference at the Hero World Challenge on Tuesday, Tiger confirmed that his ankle fusion surgery was successful and that he no longer experiences the same pain while walking. He said that a “once a month” schedule on the PGA TOUR was realistic, a stark improvement from his outlook one year ago.

From these comments, we can assume Tiger’s legs are finally healthy enough to withstand a four-day tournament, especially on a layout as flat as Albany Golf Course. The state of his golf game, however, is a greater mystery. Tiger did not comment on how many rounds of golf he’s been able to play in recent months but maintains that he has been practicing. When asked if he thinks he can win this week, Tiger simply answered, “Absolutely.”

Tiger Woods ODDS At The Hero World Challenge

If the GOAT’s presence has suddenly gotten you interested in watching four days of action in the Bahamas at the 2023 Hero World Challenge, there are many opportunities to bet on Tiger Woods across various golf betting markets. Here’s a look at some of my favorite Tiger Woods bets.

Round 1 Specials

On weaker legs in 2022, we saw Tiger’s game gradually sputter over the course of four days, with fatigue setting in by the weekend. Based on his latest comments, that fatigue may be less of a factor this week, but it’s still fair to wonder if Round 1 will offer the greatest upside for Tiger.

Of the Round 1 bets available, “Tiger to shoot 71 or lower” seems to offer the best value at -125 on BetMGM. Albany Golf Course is a flat par-72 with five par-5s, offering ample birdie opportunities. Last year, 18 of 20 players opened round one with a score of 71 or better. Tiger may be rusty, but he wouldn’t be here if he wasn’t capable of breaking par.

Full Tournament Head-To-Head: Tiger Woods vs. Lucas Glover

As the only player in the field outside the top 40 official world golf rankings, it’s not surprising to see Tiger Woods handicapped as the biggest longshot in the field. Lucas Glover has the next longest odds to win this event and can be targeted against in a Full Tournament Matchup bet.

Though Tiger’s form is a great mystery, I would be surprised to see him come in last place. As tournament host, he knows Albany Golf Course and shouldn’t be overly challenged by this straightforward resort course. Conversely, Glover will make his Hero World Challenge debut this week and has come down to earth a bit since his FedEx Cup Playoff push. At plus-odds, I’d endorse Woods in this matchup.

Hero World Challenge Futures & Placement Bets

Is Tiger Woods going to win his first start in seven months post-surgery? Probably not. But he is the one player in this sport who has defied conventional logic time after time. In a field of just 20 players, 90-1 outright odds makes for a fun entertainment bet to throw some spare change on.

Realistically, however, I think just finishing top 15 would be seen as a huge win. Tiger Woods odds are typically bet down by the public, so I don’t see much value in these futures and placement props.

2024 Major Championship Futures: Tiger Woods Outright Odds

Is a 2019 Masters repeat in store for the GOAT in 2024? For the first time since the 2021 accident, Woods sounds confident he can sustain the walk of a 72-hole tournament without suffering further setbacks to his leg. Whether his game has fully recovered is a separate conversation entirely, but if he proves able to make the cut at a Major on one leg, it’s not far-fetched to envision him in contention at a major in 2024.
