Texans Injury Analysis

The Texans receiving corps is down bad. They came into the season with a budding superstar and a fading superstar. And both Nico Collins and Stefon Diggs are out, the latter done for the season after tearing his ACL. The team hopes Collins will return in Week 10, but that’s no help against the Jets’ top-rated coverage unit.

John Metchie III, Xavier Hutchinson, and Robert Woods will vie for the vacated targets.

LB Christian Harris is also on IR.

The back seven of the defense has also been hit by injury, but that unit should be closer to whole. LB Azeez Al-Shaair, LB Henry To’oTo’o, and S Jimmie Ward all returned to practice this week and look likely to go.

Jets Injury Analysis

A slew of Jets have missed the first two practices of the week.

On offense, the most notable potential loss is RG Alijah Vera-Tucker. The line has been shaky enough, particularly LT Tyron Smith, so the Jets can ill afford any further slippage. Houston is third in Adjusted Sack Rate, so they’ll be a tough matchup even at full health.

WR Allen Lazard has also yet to practice. Mike Williams would likely see more burn in his stead.

Current starting safeties Ashtyn Davis (Chuck Clark’s already on IR) and Tony Adams have both missed the first two practices. Adams picked up a hamstring ailment, and Davis landed in concussion protocol, so it’s safe to assume both will be out. Retreads Isaiah Oliver and Jalen Mills are set to start.

LB C.J. Mosley picked up a neck injury. He hasn’t practiced, but Jamien Sherwood has filled in ably for him this year.

EDGE Jermaine Johnson is already on IR as well.
