Broncos Injury Analysis

Patrick Surtain II is the big blow here. He went down with a concussion in Week 6 and is all but certain to miss this game. The Broncos will miss their elite coverage man, but as you’ll see below, the impact may be mitigated by injuries on the other side.

Aside from Surtain, the Broncos are in quite a good position health-wise. They actually are on the uptick, with three rotation players on the IR designated for a return:

  • EDGE Baron Browning
  • CB Damarri Mathis
  • RT Mike McGlinchey

This is Mathis’ second week on the designated for return list, so he’s the most likely to come back. It may be another week or two for Browning and McGlinchey, certainly the more important two on the list.

Saints Injury Analysis

Things are getting pretty dire on the injury front for the Saints.

First and foremost is obviously the injury to QB Derek Carr. He’s looking nearly certain to miss the game. That will leave Spencer Rattler to take his second career start. He performed decently for a mid-round rookie, at least.

Unfortunately for Rattler, he may be dealing to a significantly downgraded group of targets. Chris Olave seems certain to miss the game as well. It’s almost impossible to clear concussion protocol in a full week, much less a short one. Rashid Shaheed also popped up on the injury report with a knee issue. He missed the first two practices of the week. Editor’s note: Shaheed is definitely out with a meniscus injury and may miss the rest of the season depending on severity.

LB Pete Werner and G Cesar Ruiz have also yet to practice, leaving their statuses in doubt. The team is also already down to its third-string center (Connor McGovern), with Erik McCoy and Shane Lemieux on IR.
