49ers Injury Analysis

The 49ers have a couple of concerning injuries.

S Talanoa Hufanga is out with a wrist injury. He’s been a big-play machine on that defense, hawking for turnovers and blowing up plays behind the line of scrimmage. Fourth-round rookie Malik Mustapha will replace him, but it seems unlikely that he will bring close to the same level of play.

Fellow S Ji’Ayir Brown is also dealing with an injury, but it looks like he’ll go.

The other big one here is K Jake Moody. After a shaky start last year, Moody was strong down the stretch and hit a clutch long kick in the Super Bowl. He’s out as well, with replacement-level Matthew Wright stepping in. He has made only 40 of 47 career kicks, so look for the Niners to possibly be more aggressive on fourth downs.

Starting DT Jordan Elliott also missed Tuesday’s practice, leaving his status in doubt. The 49ers don’t have any depth here with Javon Hargrave already on IR.

RB Christian McCaffrey also remains on IR.

Seahawks Injury Analysis

It’s been a rough couple of weeks for the Seahawks defense in part due to injury, and that doesn’t look like it will change this week.

DT Byron Murphy II, CB Riq Woolen, and EDGE Uchenna Nwosu all logged double DNPs to start the week. The latter is on IR, so he’s definitely out. The Tuesday DNPs are especially concerning since that was an actual practice rather than an estimated one.

It looks likely the Seahawks will play this game without their second-best corner and without their first-round rookie. Stopping a powerful 49ers offense will likely be a tall task.

The one piece of good news is it looks like Nwosu’s fellow EDGE Boye Mafe will return. He missed the past two games and will be needed with Nwosu out. Seattle has one of the league’s lowest blitz rates and relies on its front to get pressure.
