2020 Super Bowl Odds: Patriots Early Favorites To Repeat At FanDuel, DraftKings

Staff March 14, 2019
2020 Super Bowl Odds

There are no months off in the NFL betting cycle. Shortly after the Patriots clinched their sixth title in Super Bowl 53bettors were already looking ahead at futures prices for next season.

The opportunity to wager on the winner of the 2020 Super Bowl was available in mid-January for bettors in Nevada at the Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas. New Jersey operators like DraftKings Sportsbook and FanDuel Sportsbook followed two weeks later with their own early odds for the Super Bowl 54 champ.

The Westgate opened the Los Angeles Rams (6/1) as the early favorite to capture next year’s Vince Lombardi Trophy on Jan. 15. However, the Kansas City Chiefs shifted into the favorite spot as of Feb. 4.

Jeff Sherman, the vice president of risk management at the SuperBook, sent out the updated odds after the Super Bowl came to a close.

In New Jersey, the Patriots (+800) opened as the favorite to win at FanDuel Sportsbook a week before the big game. That didn’t change after they won their sixth Super Bowl. New England has opened at 10/1 odds or less every season this decade.

At DraftKings, the Patriots, Chiefs, Rams and Saints were all listed with the shortest odds at +750 (15/2). That means the four teams who advanced to the conference championships in 2019 are the early favorites in the 2020 Super Bowl futures market.

A shot of optimism

The biggest longshot to win the 2020 Super Bowl heading into next season is the Miami Dolphins (150/1 at Westgate). But 100-1 longshots and fans from Washington, Detroit, New York (Jets), Buffalo, Cincinnati, Oakland and Arizona can hold out hope that their team can be the next 1998 St. Louis Rams, who went 13-3 and won Super Bowl XXXIV after opening at 300-1 odds following a 4-12 season in 1997.

Those teams can look at this year’s Chicago Bears as another example of optimism going into next season. The Bears were 100-1 odds to win the 2019 Super Bowl prior to the regular season. Chicago went from five wins the previous season to a 12-4 record and division title before losing in the playoffs on a last-second, “double doink” missed field goal — a bad beat for moneyline bettors but not for those who bet at FanDuel Sportsbook.

The Bears (+1,700 at DraftKings Sportsbook) and LA Chargers (+1,400) are expected to be Super Bowl contenders next season after both made the playoffs this year with 12-4 records. The Indianapolis Colts (+1,400) are among the top 10 favorites to win Super Bowl LIV next year after catching fire late in the year. And even the Cleveland Browns (+2,000) are picking up a lot of steam following a 7-8-1 season.

New Jersey Sports Betting: Which NJ Sportsbook App Is Best For You?

Bill Gelman February 19, 2019
NJ Sportsbook Apps

New Jersey legalized sports betting is expanding at a rapid pace. The sportsbooks available in the Garden State include seven Atlantic City casinos, two racetracks, and eight mobile online products available. And there are more to come.

In this article, we’re going to focus on the mobile apps available in New Jersey. Each of the sites have their strong points, and it really comes down to personal preference and searching for the best odds.

Here is a closer look at the eight options.

DraftKings Sportsbook

Land-based partner: Resorts Atlantic City
Available via: iOS, Android and web browser
Super Bowl Promo: Free $25 (no deposit) and bet match up to $500 (no promo code needed)

DraftKings, one of two DFS heavyweights to cross over to the sports betting world, surprised many by jumping to the front of the New Jersey mobile sports betting line on Aug. 16 — a full 16 days before MGM went live.

Deposit options are limited compared to others on this list, but PayPal was added as an important option for bettors. The $5 minimum deposit is light on the wallet, but $500 will earn you the full promo amount. Withdrawals are processed via checks and the Resorts casino cage.

Although the apps are separate, users of the DFS and sports betting sites enjoy the benefit of the sites being linked, including a shared wallet.

You can pretty much place a bet on any sport, cricket and darts included. DraftKings offers a complete menu of betting options, including in-play and cash out options.

The betting carousel is extremely user-friendly. And the geolocation technology is top-notch. If you’re not located in NJ, users will not be able to see the lobby. The app automatically logs users out after a short period of inactivity. Wagers can only be placed online as DraftKings does not have a retail operation.

For more information visit our DraftKings Sportsbook review page.

FanDuel Sportsbook

Land-based partner: Meadowlands Racetrack
Available via: iOS, Android and web browser
Super Bowl Promo: Risk-free bet up to $500 (with deposit)

FanDuel, another big-time player in the DFS world, merged with Paddy Power Betfair’s U.S. operations, resulting in the “largest online sports destination in the United States.” Name recognition is key, and so is having a strong sportsbook app.

There are several deposit and withdrawal options at FanDuel Sportsbook, making it easy to get in the action. The promo bonus is enough to attract attention, but several others are offering higher amounts.

Bettors can wager on all of the popular sports, and those not quite as popular. The full menu of betting options includes everything from moneyline to round robins, and of course the previously talked about in-play betting.

The live scoreboard feature allows users to track wagers and updated odds, with easy links to in-game bets. Sports betting rookies can take advantage of the informative FanDuel training camp.

For more information visit our FanDuel Sportsbook review page.

BetStars Sportsbook

Land-based partner: Resorts
Available via: iOS, Android; web browser in the works
Promo: New players earn up to $500 in free bets

The sports betting product is the newest under the Stars Group umbrella, joining the already established PokerStars NJ and PokerStars Casino.

The eight deposit methods ($10 minimum) include VISA, MasterCard, PayNearMe, eCheck, and casino cage, offering plenty of customer convenience. There are five withdrawal options.

Wagers are accepted on all the popular sports — football, basketball, baseball, hockey, soccer — and less popular sports such as tennis and cycling. Besides the popular wager options, there are in-game betting and cash out options. Odds boosts are available daily.

Users of the multiple Stars Group platforms have access to a shared wallet available to use in poker/casino and sports betting apps.

The iOS PokerStars NJ app highlights popular games with betting options and other sports posted above. The downside is bets cannot currently be placed via the web browser.

Caesars Sportsbook

Land-based partner: Caesars Atlantic City
Available via: Android, iOS and web browser
Super Bowl Promo: Upt to $300 in free bets on first deposit (Use promo code BETFREE10)

One thing missing from the Caesars Atlantic City property is a retail sportsbook. But sister properties Harrah’s and the connected Bally’s do have one. The flagship property took a different route by rolling out its mobile/online product first, and it’s combined with the previously existing casino app.

Besides the eight deposit methods, the lobby features a full menu of sports wagers grouped by sport, MLB, NBA and NCAA football games take center stage, but it’s easy to filter personal preferences.

Bettors will find money lines, point spreads, parlays, futures, teasers, and props, but in-game and cash out features are not included at this time.

Total Rewards members will enjoy the added perk of earning tier credits.

SugarHouse Sportsbook and Casino

Land-based partner: Golden Nugget Atlantic City
Available via: Android, iOS and web browser
Promo: First deposit match up to $250 (Use promo code PLAY250)

The brick-and-mortar SugarHouse calls Philadelphia home, but the digital version is holding its own in New Jersey thanks to its strong affiliation with the Golden Nugget — the state’s Internet/mobile gaming leader. As an added bonus the sportsbook is built into the previously existing casino app (featuring more than 450 table games and slots) for an all-in-one package with a shared wallet.

Users will enjoy the 10 deposit options — four of which can be used for withdrawals. All of the popular American sports are on the board with a variety of betting options available — jackpot parlay included. Everything is easily accessible via the very busy looking lobby, which may be distracting to some as a result of the rotating promo ads and news feed.

Operator Rush Street Interactive has played up the strength of its live betting options for football games with more than 300 offers available the first week of the NFL season. Cash Out option is available, too.

For more information, visit our SugarHouse how-to guide.

888sport

Land-based partner: Caesars Atlantic City
Available via: Android and web browser (iOS coming soon)
Promo: $10 Free Bonus (no deposit needed); First deposit match up to $500

888 Holdings continues to go all in with its New Jersey mobile/online offerings as 888sport joins 888poker and 888 Casino. 888 bills its sports betting platform as “among the finest in the world.” It was the seventh sports betting platform to go live in NJ. Users have access to a shared wallet between sports betting, poker, and casino.

Customers can choose between eight deposit options along with five withdrawal methods. The welcome promo is currently among the best being offered.

There is a full menu of popular pro and international sports all types of wagers available, in-game betting included. Everything is easily accessible from the lobby that includes a running scoreboard of current games.

iOS users will need to wait a tad longer as the web browser still has the “coming soon message.”

William Hill

Land-based partners: Monmouth Park and Ocean Casino Resort
Available via: Android, iOS and web browser
Promo: $50 cash after reaching $50 in total bets

William Hill is investing heavily in New Jersey with retail operations at Monmouth Park (where New Jersey’s first legal sports bet was accepted) and Ocean Casino Resort, with another one in the works at the Tropicana.

William Hill’s hard push in NJ comes as no surprise being that they bill themselves as “America’s sports betting leader.” Besides operating 100-plus sportsbooks in Nevada, the company rolled out the New Jersey version of its Android and web browser platforms in time for the NFL season. The iOS app was launched in late September 2018.

The deposit and withdrawal methods are a bit limited compared to some competitors, but William Hill has been doing this for a long time, so the system is working. All of the major sports are on the board with a full variety of betting options, live betting included. Everything is easily accessible from the lobby.

The welcome promo is not as attractive as others — $50 in free money compared to much larger deposit matches at 888sport, BetStars and DraftKings.

Web browser users may experience some confusion if connected to the informational williamhill.us/new-jersey website, which includes links to the Nevada version of the app. Customer service representatives are in hand to help resolve the issue. Instead of searching Google Play, Android users will have an easier time downloading the app via nj.us.williamhill.com/betting/en-us.

playMGM Sportsbook

Land-based partner: Borgata
Available via: Android devices
Promo: None at this time

The Borgata is the top-performing casino in Atlantic City and is regularly ahead of the pack with its offerings. The MGM-owned property was ready to go with its retail operation the first day sports bets were accepted in New Jersey. Some were likely surprised that the playMGM Sports Android app was not the first to launch. For now, it’s completely separate from the casino and poker apps.

While MGM has name recognition, the app seems extremely basic compared to the Las Vegas version that is designed with strong graphics. The betting options are displayed within the individual sports menus. Users will not be able to access the lobby without creating/logging into account — another difference from the Las Vegas version. No deposit is required to check out the app.

Seven available deposit options make it easy to get in the game.

The biggest remaining question is when, as in when will the app be available to iOS and web browser users? Combined with a lack of a promo offer, bettors may find others options on this list more attractive.

FanDuel Sportsbook Bettor Turns $20 Into $178K With 15-Leg Parlay

Grant Lucas February 7, 2019
FanDuel Parlay

It takes time and work to turn a small wager into a hefty payday. Though some people (THIS GUY!) have needed only 30 minutes to spin $10 into $650 on a video poker machine.

One recent FanDuel Sportsbook bettor heard that tale and said, “Hold my beer.”

According to a sportsbook spokesman, a New Jersey sports betting customer took $20.13, built a 15-leg parlay and came away with a whopping $178,221.66.

Not a bad Wednesday.

Not intimidated by long odds

Playing through the FanDuel online sportsbook, the lucky bettor faced what, for most everyone else, would be insurmountable odds.

Statistically, this user would have more luck finding a pearl in an oyster than hitting the parlay. Even winning an Oscar carries better odds. (Bet on it.)

Per FanDuel Sportsbook, the true odds of hitting the 15-leg parlay — which included moneyline, point spread and predicting first-half winners in the NBA and NCAA men’s basketball games — stood at roughly 16,500-1.

NBA legs of the parlay

Six legs of the miraculous parlay involved NBA action. Here are the bettor’s picks:

Spurs at WarriorsFirst-half winner-550Warriors
Suns at JazzFirst-half winner-650Jazz
Pelicans at BullsMoneyline+102Pelicans
Rockets at KingsPoint spread-110Rockets -3
Hornets at MavericksPoint spread-115Mavericks -5.5

Fortunately, only one game really hung in the balance.

After all, the Milwaukee Bucks led the Washington Wizards 50-35 after the first quarter en route to an 85-65 halftime lead. (The Bucks eventually polished off their highest-scoring game of the season, a 148-129 victory.) Similarly, the Golden State Warriors cruised to a 66-52 lead at the break, and the Utah Jazz went into the half up 56-46.

Even the New Orleans Pelicans’ game, a 125-120 win, was not that close, as the Chicago Bulls poured in some garbage points to narrow the gap. And of course the Houston Rockets laid waste to the Sacramento Kings, outscoring Sacramento 44-17 in the second quarter en route to a 127-101 victory.

The only concern came with the Dallas Mavericks, whose win was never in doubt, really, during the game’s waning moments. Dwight Powell made two free throws with 9.2 seconds left to push Dallas in front by six points. But the Charlotte Hornets had several opportunities to spoil the parlay, though two missed shots and a turnover secured the Mavericks cover.

NCAA legs of the parlay

Like the NBA picks, most of the bettor’s NCAA selections were never in doubt, with six of nine chosen teams winning by double digits.

Rhode Island at DavidsonPoint spread-110Davidson -4
Wisconsin at MinnesotaPoint spread-110Wisconsin -2
Baylor at TexasPoint spread-110Texas -3

Of the moneyline picks, Maryland handled Nebraska 60-45, and Georgetown dispatched Providence 76-67, both on the road.

Overtime was needed for LSU, which missed two shots within the final 5 seconds of regulation to send the game to an extra period. There, the Tigers got a 3-pointer from Naz Reid with 11 seconds remaining to seal their 92-88 win over Mississippi State.

Five of six point spread picks went smoothly for the FanDuel bettor. The second-closest game of the picks was Texas beating Baylor 84-72.

Some sweat certainly poured during Wisconsin-Minnesota, during which the Badgers narrowly covered their 2-point spread. Wisconsin, which never trailed and was only tied twice, led 49-46 with 2:11 to play but pulled away enough to pay out with a 56-51 victory.

As a result, a $20 wager became a cool $178,000.

Super Bowl 2019 Props Extravaganza: Here’s What You Can Bet And Where To Find The Best Odds

Juan Carlos Blanco February 1, 2019
Super Bowl Props

A great deal of mainstream media coverage of betting action on the Super Bowl will focus on popular bet types such as the point spread and moneyline. However, as seasoned bettors well know, there are infinitely more wagers can be placed on The Big Game.

The most common are naturally proposition bets, commonly known as “props”. For the uninitiated, props are simply wagers that can be placed on a specific in-game occurrence that has a binary outcome. Props are typically available at sportsbooks at an individual player, team, or game level.

Prop bets give those placing them significantly more vested interest in a game as it unfolds. Unlike end-of-game wagers based on a point spread, moneyline or projected total, prop bets are settled before the final gun goes off. The higher degree of potential accelerated gratification (or disappointment) they offer and their straightforward nature make them significantly popular as “side bets.”

As with other wagers, payouts depend on the odds assigned. With some props encompassing rather improbable events or players, favorable odds that leave the sportsbook with plenty of exposure can be common.

For example, a wager on whether the first score of the game will be a safety, whether there will be a blocked punt by either team in the game, or whether Tom Brady will score a rushing touchdown all qualify as unlikely occurrences to a varying degree. Given their low probability, these prop bets will fetch you some very favorable odds.

Examples of common football-based prop bets

In football, some of the more common props include:

  • What team will be the first to score
  • What the winning margin of victory for either team might be
  • What type of scoring play will lead to the game’s first points
  • What teams will be in the lead at the end of any of the first three quarters
  • What the total amount of points in the first or second half will be
  • What player will be the first to score any points in the game
  • What player will be the first to score a touchdown
  • Whether a quarterback will throw for under or over a certain amount of yards
  • Whether a running back will rush for under or over a certain amount of yards
  • Whether a receiver will accumulate over or under a certain amount of receiving yards
  • What player will be named the game’s MVP

Naturally, that list is far from comprehensive, especially when it comes to an event such as the Super Bowl.

The Super Bowl Line Setting Juggling Act: Which Books Are Offering Patriots -3?

Chops January 29, 2019
Super Bowl Odds

Right after the conclusion of the NFC and AFC championship games, Nevada and New Jersey sportsbooks opened Super Bowl wagering with the Los Angeles Rams at -1 or -1.5 on the point spread.

An avalanche of money poured in on the New England Patriots, and the line quickly moved to Patriots -1, and eventually settled for the past week around -2.5.

Despite approximately 80% of all money at some Vegas books pumping the Patriots, the line hasn’t budged for a week. Only William Hill has planted its Patriots -3 flag into the ground.

It’s not like Vegas isn’t willing to adjust this Super Bowl, either. The initial record-setting Patriots-Rams over/under of 58.5 witnessed 69% of total tickets and 74% dollars wagered on the under. The number has since dropped to 56.5.

How the books are approaching the numbers

Analytics expect this game to be close. FiveThirtyEight has it as a virtual coin-flip, slightly favoring the Patriots as a 53% winner. numberFire has the Pats as 1.5-2.5 points better. Other models (and Madden 19) have the Rams as slightly better.

Regardless of the data, the public and perhaps the sharps all like the Patriots.

The Westgate SuperBook has realized 80% of all straight bets on New England and “moneyline wagers are on the Patriots by a 10-1 margin.” This isn’t just because the Patriots are a beloved public team like the Packers, Steelers, Bills, or Cowboys. Last year, Vegas took a bath as the majority of money was on the Eagles.

The Westgate, though, has held at Patriots -2.5. Boyd and Stations sportsbooks went to -3 before quickly readjusting to -2.5. William Hill has rested at -3, but with some price adjusting.

On Friday, William Hill moved the line 3-flat (-110). This means you could wager $110 on either side to win $100. Bettors hammered the Rams 3-flat, so William Hill adjusted to Patriots -3 (even) and Rams +3 (-120) and have since settled there.

Nick Bogdanovich, sportsbook director at William Hill, explains it:

“Once we went to 3 flat, Rams money just kept coming in. I don’t know if it was sharp. Everyone in the world plays the Super Bowl and we were the only 3 flat in town. At 2.5, it was all Patriots money. At 3 flat, it was all Rams. The Rams at plus 3 (minus) 120 is much more even.”

On the other side of the country, New Jersey sportsbook Super Bowl odds have reached a consensus of Patriots -2 or -2.5 across the board. FanDuel Sportsbook was the only operator offering -2 as of Tuesday morning.

Another record-setting Super Bowl?

As far as handle goes, it doesn’t matter if the line goes to Patriots -3 or not. This is shaping up to be another record-setting Super Bowl in Nevada, and in the U.S. (obviously) as well.

It’ll be record-setting for Nevada despite legal domestic competition for the first time. If nothing else, legalized sports betting is providing the old online poker corollary once again. Many in the casino industry once thought online poker would kill card room business. The opposite happened, as access to the game fed public acceptance and activity into brick-and-mortar card rooms. Even with other states allowing sports betting, Nevada is still expected to post record betting totals.

But will it be a Super Bowl of record losses again?

As they say, there wouldn’t be giant casinos in the desert if the public was always right.

However, they were right last year with the Eagles. There’s certainly consensus around the Patriots this year.

Westgate SuperBook manager John Murray told Forbes.com, “We’re going to need the Rams really big on this…”

How this game plays out, and how line movement on this game impacts earnings, will be an interesting case study on Super Bowls for years to come.

Turf Club Looks to Revive Business With Prime Philadelphia Sportsbook Location

Marco Cerino January 19, 2019
Turf Club Sportsbook

The first sportsbook located just steps from the homes of four major league franchises in North America opened Thursday. The Turf Club, an OTB venue in South Philadelphia, now offers legal sports betting action to players.

Turf Club becomes the second Greenwood Racing venue open for sports betting in Pennsylvania. Parx Casino in Bensalem, on the site of Philadelphia Park, began operations last week.

What bettors will find at the Turf Club

The venue in South Philadelphia offers all the same betting options available as the sister property on the other side of I-95. Kambi kiosks dot the expansive seating floor, along with betting windows facing the bar.

Greenwood CEO Tony Ricci was on hand for the grand opening. Aside from new TVs and fresh paint, it didn’t take much to add sports betting to the Turf Club’s offerings.

“This place is a natural sports book anyway,” he said. “It was taking bets on a sport — one sport. Now it can take bets on all sports.”

Instead of partitioning off a section of casino floor or renovating an area, Turf Club transitioned easily and seamlessly. Players can bet the horses and hoops but in a bigger space than options like the Borgata. The venue includes food and drink service on site.

While Parx and Turf Club launched a month after local rival SugarHouse Casino, they got more out of their deal with Kambi, like in-game betting at the kiosks. Prices at the Greenwood books are a bit higher, as SugarHouse maintained their shorter vig on NFL games offered on their NJ online/mobile book.

Unlike other openings, players weren’t exactly lining up to make bets. The midweek open didn’t draw a big crowd. George Wagner, of Warrington, made the first bet, a three-team parlay involving college and pro basketball.

He has bet in Pennsylvania, regulated and not (it’s South Philly, don’t act surprised). He mentioned the convenience of betting on-site attracted him, along with quicker payouts versus mobile sites like FanDuel Sportsbook in New Jersey. He did admit that unregulated books can try to retain customers with better prices.

A Turf Club revival?

Ricci is looking to sports betting as lifeline horse racing thought casino games would provide racetracks but turned out to be another noose. The competition for gambling dollars has seen handle at the venue drop from $100 million at the peak to $20 million now. Turf Club has closed four of its six locations in the Delaware Valley.

This is a major opportunity to test the notion that sportsbook can save the downtrodden thoroughbred industry in the Keystone State. FanDuel Sportsbook’s crown jewel in New Jersey is at the Meadowlands is the state’s biggest retail book. In the shadow of Metlife Stadium and NYC, that sportsbook has performed very well.

Turf Club is a short walk from the three big sports venue on Pattison Avenue in South Philly and mass transit. It’s a short drive off I-95, easier to get to than Parx and closer to the suburbs than SugarHouse. There are exponentially more games in that area than the Meadowlands. Fans may find a better (and more affordable) experience than at Xfinity Live, the bar/concert venue where the Spectrum once stood.

Ricci is embracing the live experience for players. The volume of the TVs and channels broadcasted rival any major book in AC or Vegas. He hopes to launch on-site mobile betting later in the year. This could keep people in the building for hours, even on slower nights when the home teams are off.

Turf Club’s other location, in Valley Forge, near 76 and the PA Turnpike, is next. Ricci hopes to launch those operations in time for March Madness. That would certainly make it a destination for the Villanova fanbase on the Main Line. If Greenwood finds success with these locations, they could reopen the shuttered clubs around the area.

Jalen Hurts Transfer To Oklahoma Moves College Football Betting Futures

Chops January 17, 2019
College Football Betting Oklahoma

Two college football powerhouses picked up quarterback transfers from two even bigger (SEC) powerhouses.

One shifted betting futures markets; one didn’t.

Justin Fields bailed on Georgia for Ohio State. Fields was the No. 1 QB prospect in the 2018 class but opted to avoid the grind of SEC defenses for the friendlier confines of the Big 10.

Ohio State remained at +1,400 odds to the win the 2019-20 National Championship at FanDuel Sportsbook.

Jalen Hurts, who won a national championship for Alabama as a starter and a second — well, technically as a starter before being benched for Tua Tagovailoa — has now transferred to Oklahoma.

Upon news of the Hurts’ transfer, FanDuel moved Oklahoma’s futures from +2,000 to +1,400. The number dropped back to +1,600 as of Thursday morning.

That’s a sizable jump considering it’s still not 100 percent certain that Hurts will be eligible to start this coming year.

Hurts’ former team, Alabama, remains the national title favorite at +200. Defending champ Clemson sits at +250. Fields’ former team, Georgia, is the third favorite at +750.

Two interesting value plays going into the season include Michigan (+2,000) and Florida (+3,500). If you enjoy lighting money on fire, bet on any PAC-12 team.

2020 College Football Futures: Clemson, Alabama Early Favorites

Chops January 8, 2019
Clemson Alabama

After Clemson’s throttling of Alabama in the national championship game, the Tigers find themselves as early favorites to repeat in 2020.

Early futures at DraftKings Sportsbook have Clemson and Alabama at +200 to win the 2020 college football national championship. FanDuel Sportsbook lists Alabama at +170 and Clemson +250. At the Westgate Superbook in Las Vegas, Clemson is +180 and Alabama is +250.

Interestingly, before Monday’s national title game, Alabama was the listed favorite at the Westgate. However, given Clemson’s domination, the Tigers went from +350 to +180 by game’s end.

Ohio State (+700 at DraftKings, +850 at FanDuel) and Georgia (+800 at both) are next on the list of 2019-20 title contenders. Michigan and Oklahoma round out the rest of the favorites. All of the odds can be found below.

Notre Dame, which made this year’s playoffs but was embarrassed in the semifinals by Clemson, starts at +3300.

The odds somewhat line up with ESPN’s take on a way-too-early top 25.

Given their recent recruiting classes, Clemson QB  Trevor Lawrence ascension to likely Heisman favorite, and weak overall division, Clemson seem well-positioned to at least make another CFB playoff. And don’t kid yourself that last night’s national championship game is the end of Alabama’s dynasty. While the SEC will be stronger overall next year, Bama is still the team to beat.

Our #1 Sportsbook Choice.

FanDuel Sportsbook Gifts Chicago Bears Moneyline Bettors With Bad Beat Relief

FairwayJay January 8, 2019
FanDuel Sportsbook

NFL’s Wild Card weekend got wilder as emotions from fans and bettors were on full display Sunday night.

FanDuel Sportsbook decided to provide some bad-beat relief to wagers who bet the Chicago Bears on the moneyline to win the wild-card game against the Eagles.

The Philadelphia Eagles escaped with a 16-15 win after Bears’ kicker Cody Parkey’s game-winning 43-yard field goal attempt hit the upright and crossbar and fell back into the field of play.

The “double-doink” kick became to talk of NFL fans and sports bettors were slightly tipped at the line of scrimmage by an Eagles’ lineman. But that provides little solace to Bears’ bettors and fans.

FanDuel Sportsbook awards customers up to $100 credit

All online FanDuel Sportsbook customers in New Jersey who placed a single, moneyline wager on the Bears to beat the Eagles on Jan. 6 will automatically receive a site credit matching their stake up to $100 in their account.

“We are thrilled for the Eagles, but it was a tough way for the Bears to lose,” said Mike Raffensperger, CMO of FanDuel Group.

“With playoff season heating up, this was a way to prove there are more ways to win on the FanDuel Sportsbook, and once again, show why we are the most innovative and fun sportsbook in the United States.”

FanDuel’s creative approach

FanDuel continues its innovative approach to sports and gaming, and the company is changing the way consumers engage with their favorite sports, teams and leagues.

In November, the FanDuel Sportsbook made an impact in the industry with sports betting history. FanDuel became the first legal sports betting operator in the US to pay out future wagers on the college football national championship — more than a month before the final game happened.

The FanDuel Sportsbook awarded online customers early winnings and paid out all Alabama bets to win the national title. The Crimson Tide ended up losing in the national championship game to Clemson on Jan. 7, and the promotion cost FanDuel $40,000. Alabama bettors with future win wagers on the Tide rolled in the money more than five weeks ago.

FanDuel offers a sportsbook app in the state of New Jersey. FanDuel also has physical sportsbooks at NJ’s Meadowlands at the Greenbrier in West Virginia.

The company provides “More Ways To Win” through its live football sports betting TV show.

With the biggest single sports betting event approaching for Super Bowl LIII on Feb. 3, it will be interesting to see what FanDuel offers its customers next. It’s likely to be a touchdown catch for its customers.

FanDuel Sportsbook Expands NJ Betting Menu With Darts, Aussie Rules Football

Grant Lucas December 20, 2018
FanDuel Darts

Hot take: Stephen Hawking was a smart dude. If not only for one thought:

“Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.”

Nobody aspires to be Chumbawamba, a flash-in-the-pan, one-hit wonder. The Foo Fighters’ reputation — with their extensive catalog of hits spanning a generation —  is more desirable.

That’s the goal: Adapt and endure.

In New JerseyFanDuel Sportsbook is doing just that, introducing several new features within its NJ sports betting online platform to allow the operator to stay ahead of the curve. Among them: markets for professional darts and Australian rules football, and a shared wallet with Betfair Casino NJ.

Additionally, as best it can, FanDuel remains in stride with its chief competitors in the Garden State, particularly DraftKings Sportsbook.

New markets hit FanDuel Sportsbook

Certainly the load of FanDuel’s handle and revenue stems from the major sports leagues: NFLNBAMLBNHL, even NCAA football and men’s basketball.

FanDuel, though, has expanded its offerings.

The sportsbook recently rolled out markets for PDC darts (the professional circuit) and Australian rules football. While such niche sports likely won’t generate a significant or even notable bump in revenue, FanDuel casts a wider net. As a result, the sportsbook becomes one of a select few operations with such variety.

Of the seven other online sportsbooks in New Jersey, four offer darts: BetStars, DraftKings, SugarHouse Sportsbook, and 888 Sportsbook NJ.

Fewer operators feature Australian rules lines, as only three (all Kambi Group clients) include the sport: DraftKings, SugarHouse and 888.

FanDuel promoting online casino

Over the summer, Paddy Power Betfair completed its acquisition of FanDuel and rebranded its US operation as FanDuel Group.

The new owner runs the online Betfair Casino in New Jersey, and soon after, it seemed as if the online casino would get a makeover complete with FanDuel name and logo.

While that has yet to come to pass, FanDuel has begun promoting Betfair Casino within its sportsbook.

The promotion takes users to the Betfair Casino, which does not promote FanDuel Sportsbook. Still, another innovation could help both platforms enjoy a bump in users.

FanDuel announced that customers could use their sportsbook login information to gain access to Betfair Casino.

Essentially, FanDuel will not have a shared wallet with the online casino, allowing users to navigate seamlessly between the two products. As a result, bettors will have access to hundreds of real-money casino games at Betfair Casino, including blackjackroulette and slots.

FanDuel customers will also be offered a special promotion via Betfair Casino. Bettors will have the ability to play their first day risk-free up to $100 at Betfair. Per FanDuel: “Net losses within the first 24 hours of placing first real money casino wager will be given as casino site credit up to $100.”

On the heels of DraftKings

FanDuel’s newest features come on the heels of DraftKings Sportsbook implementing a preview of blackjack within its mobile app for Android and iOS platforms.

The New Jersey online casino industry has taken off in 2018, as monthly revenue records were set four times since March. Of course, sports betting in the Garden State has enjoyed a similar boom.

In November, sportsbooks in the state took in more than $330 million in wagers, resulting in more than $21 million in gross revenue. Online platforms alone accounted for 72 percent of the sports betting handle.

Yet sportsbooks, particularly FanDuel and DraftKings, the two mobile leaders in New Jersey, have recognized an untapped market within the online casino industry. Now both have avenues into that space, which will potentially make these companies even more powerful in Garden State.
