Maryland Online Sportsbooks

During the Wednesday, October 19 meeting, officials determined a date to begin approving Maryland online sportsbooks. The Sports Wagering Application Review Committee (SWARC) will approve licenses on Monday, November 21. Once licenses are approved, sportsbooks will need to have internal controls approved as the next step.

Sportsbooks in Maryland will likely be live by the end of November or the beginning of December with this timeline.

Maryland Sportsbook Approvals Incoming

With rolling application approvals, SWARC can approve applicants in a staggering manner. The November 21 meeting will see officials reviewing applicants for approval. They can begin approving applicants on said date on a case-by-case basis.

This is the final step for SWARC to bring Maryland online sportsbooks to residents. The regulations have been set and reviewed by the public. Sportsbooks have begun submitting their applications with the deadline set for Friday, October 21, 2022. And SWARC has met to confirm the date for application reviews.

The Old-Line State is on pace to see mobile betting apps in the hands of residents ahead of the NFL postseason. There is even the potential for the market to be live in time for the Thanksgiving Game. The long-awaited market is on the horizon.

Regulatory Approval and Launches Only Weeks Away

The next steps for the Maryland market include sportsbooks gaining final regulatory approval. This means they will need to prove the infrastructure of their operation is up to standard. This is typical for other markets as well before sportsbooks can go live.

Major operators like Caesars Sportsbook FanDuel, DraftKings, and BetMGM are used for this phase of the launching process. Fans can expect these operators to be approved post haste following their application approvals.

Following these approvals, sportsbooks themselves will set their launch dates. The operators will likely aim to go live as soon as possible. Sportsbooks are already eager to launch in Ohio. The earlier they can go live the better.

Realistically, Marylanders are only weeks away from access to mobile sportsbooks. Fans can be sure that pre-live offers and promotions will be available in short order.
