Super Bowl Trick-Play Odds For Chiefs & Eagles

Super Bowl trick play

Trick plays have a storied history in the Super Bowl. The Philly Special, as does Hines Ward catching a TD from a fellow receiver against the Seahawks, comes to mind. Just last year, 49ers WR Jauan Jennings tossed the first TD of the game to Christian McCaffrey. Will we see a Super Bowl trick play from the Eagles or Chiefs this year?

Let's look at the odds of the Super Bowl 59 regarding trick plays. Will a non-QB throw a touchdown pass? Will an offensive lineman score a touchdown? We'll review the prices for these novelty props from the best betting sites.

Super Bowl Trick Play Odds

Will Either QB Catch A Pass?

A prop offering odds on whether a QB will catch a pass? There's perhaps no more appropriate place for that than a Super Bowl involving the Eagles. The infamous Philly Special landed gently in Nick Foles' arms for a touchdown, while Tom Brady failed to haul in a similar play. That was arguably the difference in the game.

So, will the Chiefs or Eagles run a Super Bowl trick play involving a QB catching a pass? Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts are certainly athletic enough to do it. Hurts has two career targets and one catch, none of which have come in the past three years. Mahomes has four and two, but both of his career catches were snags of his batted passes. FanDuel, incidentally, offers +5000 for that to happen for either QB.

Will A Non-QB Throw A Pass Or TD Pass?

Along the same lines, many trick plays involve a non-QB throwing a pass, even if it's not to a QB as in the Philly Special. Will either team let one of its position players try a trick play pass?

A couple of different markets capture this possibility among Super Bowl trick plays.

The more general route is a market on how many players will attempt a pass. Note that either QB sustaining an injury would also open up an easy way for the "Yes" side to win. These are two-way markets, so bettors can take "No" if they expect a straightforward, injury-free affair.

Among either team, Saquon Barkley appears to have registered the only "passing attempt" as a non-QB, although he didn't officially throw a pass. He was credited with a sack taken.

Bettors can also wager whether a non-QB will complete a touchdown pass. Both the Jennings and Ward plays would qualify here besides the aforementioned Philly Special.

Will An Offensive Lineman Score A TD?

It doesn't happen often, but linemen occasionally find their way into the end zone. It can happen either via a trick play or by recovering a fumble.

Notably, the Chiefs did fire a touchdown pass to Wanya Morris on a tackle-eligible play this year. G Mike Caliendo also has a target, converting it for a five-yard gain. No Eagles lineman has an officially tracked target.

Best of luck if you decide to wager on a Super Bowl trick play market. We'll see if either team tries to write the next chapter in this section of Super Bowl lore.
