Early Line Betting Strategy For The Super Bowl

So, should you bet the Super Bowl spread early or wait until closer to kickoff? That depends on a few factors.

Usually, we would advise you to get some or all of your bets down as early as possible. As the time draws nearer to the game, lines should theoretically get sharper and sharper. That means the most value is available earlier in markets’ lifespans.

However, the Super Bowl may represent an exception. Sharp money almost always rules in moving markets, but the massive public action in the Super Bowl could shape some of the numbers as well. If your early lean is to a side that you think will be unpopular with the public, it may pay to wait and see if a better number pops.

Of course, if you expect these markets to move based on Sunday’s results, or you project value on any of these sides, it can’t hurt to get something down early. You may wind up getting the best of the closing line number this way.

Opening Odds To Win Super Bowl

Here’s what each team opened at last February to win Super Bowl LVI.

  • Chiefs +600
  • 49ers +1500
  • Rams +2000
  • Bengals +6600

The 49ers and Bengals both sunk as low as 150-1 on the Super Bowl futures board at BetMGM this season, Cincinnati after a Week 2 loss to the Bears and 49ers after dropping to 3-5 with a loss to back-up QB Colt McCoy and the Cardinals.
