The biggest game of the NFL season has almost arrived as the king of the AFC will face the champ of the NFC two weeks from now. Sports betting sites have already posted Super Bowl odds for Eagles versus Chiefs with Philly as the early favorite.

The Chiefs finally got the better of Joe Burrow and his Bengals in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game, putting the “Burrowhead” narrative to rest with a 23-20 win that was highlighted by an especially gutsy performance from Patrick Mahomes.

The Eagles notched their second consecutive dominant postseason win to generally coast into Super Bowl LVII. Philadelphia knocked off the 49ers, which lost Brock Purdy due to an elbow injury for a notable chunk of the contest and were forced to reinsert him into the game at much less than 100 percent, by a 31-7 score.

That pair of outcomes sets up what arguably is the most compelling of the four potential matchups for the Lombardi Trophy that were in play entering the day. There will be no shortage of intrigue in a Mahomes-led attack going up against an Eagles defense that made life miserable on quarterbacks all season with an elite pass rush and secondary.

Additionally, Kansas City will have plenty of injury-related question marks hanging over the team in the next two weeks. Not only will Mahomes’ still clearly gimpy ankle be a subject of heavy scrutiny, but the health of receivers JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee), Kadarius Toney (ankle) and Mecole Hardman (pelvis) will certainly bear monitoring as well.

One of the aspects of Kansas City’s offense that could make them an especially challenging opponent to even a defense the caliber of Philadelphia’s is the amorphous quality the Chiefs’ attack boasts with multiple versatile weapons such as Toney, Hardman and Jerick McKinnon, who often seem equally comfortable as rushers and receivers. However, if multiple players from the injured trio are forced to sit out, that will naturally lead a less potent unit overall.

As of Sunday night, the Eagles have been installed as anywhere from 1.5-to-2.5-point favorites, while the total sits at 49.5 points across the board.
