The matchup for Super Bowl 59 is set. The Philadelphia Eagles will take on the Kansas City Chiefs, with the latter looking to capture the first-ever three-peat. Another classic AFC championship showdown between the Bills and Chiefs culminated with the inevitable — late-game Patrick Mahomes. Thanks to another dynamite ground performance from Saquon Barkley, the Eagles secure their second Super Bowl berth in the last three years. According to opening Super Bowl odds, the Chiefs are -1.5 favorites over the Eagles, with an over/under set at 48.5 points.

Super Bowl 59 between the Eagles and Chiefs kicks off Sunday, Feb. 9, at 6:30 p.m. ET. Catch the big game on Fox, broadcast from Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

Eagles Take On Chiefs in Super Bowl 59

Before the NFL championship round, sportsbooks released hypothetical odds for the Eagles against the Chiefs. According to them, Philadelphia was projected as a +1.5 underdog to KC. DraftKings Sportsbook favors a slightly higher-scoring affair than FanDuel Sportsbook, adding a point to the total.

The Eagles ran through their competition en route to this Super Bowl berth. Barkley continued to rewrite the history books. He opened the offense with a 60-yard touchdown scamper on the first play with the football. Barkley found paydirt twice more (nearly a fourth time, leading to a wild goal line sequence). Jalen Hurts rushed for three scores, including two via the tush push in short yardage. As a team, Philly rushed for seven touchdowns. Thanks to the offensive onslaught, the Eagles handily covered a -4.5 spread.

Another classic matchup sent the Chiefs to a third straight Super Bowl, their fourth championship game in five years. Despite a critical sack taken late, Mahomes orchestrated the go-ahead drive and the game-clinching drive. However, a brilliant fourth-down blitz drawn up by DC Steve Spagunolo ended the would-be Bills game-winning drive. The AFC championship marked the first time the Chiefs scored more than 30 all season.

This NFL season didn’t feature a regular-season matchup between the Eagles and Chiefs. Philadelphia fielded the NFL’s best defense and the second-best rushing attack, a complete zag from the “modern” NFL offense. Its stout defense front looks to take advantage of a vulnerable Chiefs offensive line. KC struggled at times to keep Mahomes upright, a slight testament to his improvisation and tendency to hold onto the football to open things up.

Philadelphia looks to return the Lombardi trophy to the City of Brotherly Love for the first time since 2018. In 2022, the Eagles fell to the Chiefs with a chance at a second franchise Super Bowl.
