Three Defensive Props You Can Bet On For Super Bowl LVI

The Cincinnati Bengals head to Los Angeles to take on the Rams in Super Bowl LVI on Feb. 13, 2022, and Super Bowl defense props are popular this year with a glaring defensive matchup advantage on paper.

The Rams have a strong defensive duo up front in Von Miller and Aaron Donald, who have combined for 32 pressures over three playoff games. Cincinnati’s offensive line has struggled to keep Joe Burrow from getting sacked, but he has learned to get the ball out quickly to save himself and was a maestro scrambling against Kansas City.

If you believe the saying “defense wins championships”, here are three defensive props you can make if you are looking to bet the Super Bowl.

This table defaults to Aaron Donald, but type in the name of any defensive player from the Rams or Bengals to see what props markets are open for the Super Bowl

1. Most Sacks In The Game

Right now at DraftKings Sportsbook, you can wager on which team will have the most sacks during the Super Bowl.  The Rams are currently the heavy favorite.

  • Rams: -225
  • Bengals: +310
  • Tie: +450

Burrow has taken a beating over the last two seasons. He suffered an ACL and MCL tear last year when he was hit by two Washington defenders. This season, he has been sacked more 50 times. The odds imply the Rams have a 69% chance of having more sacks in this game.

The key to saving himself and the answer to this prop is how fast he can get the ball out. The Rams are going to continue to bring the pressure.

2. Total Game Sacks

If you’re not quite sure which team will get the most sacks in the game, you can wager on the total amount of sacks recorded by both. Right now, the odds are as follows at DraftKings:

  • Under 5.5: -135
  • Over 5.5: +110

This season, the Rams have sacked opposing quarterbacks 50 times and have allowed for 31 sacks. The Bengals have allowed over 50 sacks this season, including a record-setting nine sacks on Burrow against the Titans. The defense has put up 42 sacks.

The odds imply a 47.6% chance for more than 5.5 sacks in the Super Bowl, which is notable given Cincinnati’s offensive line issues and LA ranking No. 1 in pass rush win rate

3. Will There Be A Safety During The Game?

Over at FanDuel Sportsbook, you can put money down on whether or not there will be a Super Bowl safety. “No” is the current favorite at -1200 with “Yes” at +750.

Neither the Rams nor the Bengals have recorded a safety this season.

During the 2021 NFL season, there were a total of eight safeties amongst the 32 teams. That around 3% of games with a safety, making +750 poor value for there to be one in the Super Bowl.

As the game inches closer, more sportsbooks will likely add additional defensive props to the board. Keep an eye out if you are looking to wager on a different market than the ones listed above.
