2022 Sun Belt Conference Tournament Odds: A Wide Open Field

Sun Belt Conference Tournament

This year’s Sun Belt Conference Tournament odds suggest it is anyone’s race. At stake? An automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

There is no heavy favorite with the opening round beginning Thursday, March 3. Regular season leader Texas State (21-6. 12-3) is the third choice in the odds despite a nine-game winning streak, but COVID led to unbalanced regular season standings.

Sun Belt Conference Tournament Odds: The Field

This conference is one of opportunity if you’re well informed. If you’re in on Texas State, hop over the FanDuel to get their best price (+430), which is starkly different than what’s offered at DraftKings (+250). The opposite goes for Georgia State (15-10, 9-5), who is being offered their best price (+350) at DraftKings as opposed to +270 at FanDuel. This is a prime example of why we stress line shopping as a critical sports betting tool.

The field itself is wide open according to multiple books. Aside from the price discrepancy, you have eight teams (75% of the field) priced lower than 20-1. Five of those are lower than 10-1: Texas State, Georgia State, South Alabama (+410)App State (+600), and Troy (+900).

Perhaps the price difference comes in how different books weigh the difficulty of each side of the bracket. For example, No. 4 Troy is fifth in odds at both DK and FD, but are one of just three teams in the conference with 10 Sun Belt victories this year. They have a more difficult road to a tournament title, potentially having to face the fifth seed (South Alabama), first seed (Texas State), and second seed (App State) to do so.
