Can Anyone Stop McNeese State In Southland Odds?

While the Cowboys got off to a rocky start out of conference, losing five of their first 10 games, to say it's been smooth sailing in Southland play would be an understatement.

Their only conference loss came at Nicholls, 71-63. They swept second-place Lamar, and their average margin of victory across the 19 victories was 16.2.

KenPom's efficiency metrics agree with the market that McNeese is in its own tier. His numbers rate them 61st in the country. The next closest Southland team was Texas A&M CC (151st).

The bracket certainly sets up well for McNeese, though they earned it. Southland tournament rules dictate that the top two seeds begin in the semifinals. All other teams must win multiple games on consecutive days to reach the finals.

Look for Lamar and Nicholls to present the stiffest challenge, but it will be a longshot for anyone to topple the Cowboys. The event takes place in Lake Charles, La., which further helps McNeese as that's on home turf.
