The Southland tournament takes place in Katy, Texas, and be sure to look over that linked bracket because the format plays a key factor in this event. Like a handful of other conferences, the Southland uses a “ladder” system where the best regular season teams get seeded progressively further into the tournament.
That means the top-two seeds, Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana, have a decided edge. They start in the semifinals and only have to win twice.
Nicholls enters as a sizable favorite, not only due to that seeding advantage but also because they just outplayed the other teams in the conference this season according to KenPom’s efficiency ratings. Although they rank just 202nd, that’s good for 51 places and about +5 adjusted efficiency compared to next-best New Orleans.
Note that instead of Texas A&M Corpus Christi, DraftKings Sportsbook has a “Field” option listed at +500, which may be an error.
