Sweden Looking for Upset
Sweden in the World Cup
In 2026, Sweden had their struggles in qualifying but made the field. They punched their ticket to the knockout rounds and now try to land an upset victory. The Blågult make their 13th World Cup appearance here and their first since 2018. Sweden owns a record of 20 victories, 14 draws and 20 losses in World Cup play. The Blågult entered the World Cup 38th in the FIFA world rankings. Sweden finished group play with a record of one win, one loss and one draw. They ended up third in Group F but qualified for the round of 32.
Sweden Last Match
Against Japan, Sweden had their chances but ended up settling for a draw in their group finale. The Blågult lost the possession battle by a 52% to 48% margin in the match. In addition, Sweden lost the expected goals by a 1.21 to 0.64 margin though they did own a 5-3 advantage in terms of shots on goal. The first half was fairly tepid, with Japan having the best chance in the 45th minute only to come away empty. That, coupled with Sweden’s inability to generate pressure, left the match even and scoreless at the half.
In the second half, Sweden gave up the match’s first goal in the 56th minute, putting them in a tough situation. The Blågult got even in the 62nd minute as Anthony Elanga scored off an assist from Viktor Gyökeres. Both teams had chances after that but were unable to score. Elanga was stopped in the third minute of stoppage time while Alexander Isak came up empty a minute later. As a result, the match wound up as a 1-1 draw. Kristoffer Nordfeldt started the first three matches between the sticks for Sweden. He’s expected to get the call again here.
France Seeking to Take Next Step Toward Title
France in the World Cup
In 2026, France logs their 17th World Cup appearance and their eighth consecutive one. Les Bleus reached the title game in both 2018 and 2022, winning the former and falling in penalties in the latter. France owns a record of 42 wins, 14 draws and 20 losses in World Cup play after their win over Senegal. Les Bleus entered the World Cup ranked third in the FIFA rankings. Les Bleus finished atop Group I with a record of three wins, no draws and no losses. They outscored the opposition by a massive 10-2 margin in group play.
France Last Match
Against Norway, France took advantage of the Landslaget resting key stars to roll to a victory in their group finale. That completed their perfect run through group play. Les Bleus owned a 57% to 43% advantage in terms of possession in the match. In addition, France owned a 9-4 advantage in terms of shots on goal despite losing in expected goals by a 1.70 to 1.50 margin. Kylian Mbappé nearly put France ahead in the opening minute only to see his shot clang off the bar. That near miss set the tone early for the match, however. Ousmane Dembélé gave France the lead in the seventh minute off a Mbappé setup. Dembélé added his second of the match in the 20th minute off another Mbappé setup for a 2-0 lead.
After Norway scored to make it a one-goal difference, Dembélé capped his hat trick in the 32nd minute for a 3-1 France advantage. Aurélien Tchouaméni set that marker up and France took that two-goal lead to halftime. Early in the second half, Mike Maignan stopped a penalty kick by Norway to maintain the two-goal advantage. That proved to be the last real threat by the Landslaget and Les Bleus controlled the match the rest of the way. Désiré Doué closed the scoring in the fourth minute of stoppage time off an assist from Bradley Barcola. Maignan makes his fourth World Cup appearance between the sticks for France in this contest. He turned in a clean sheet against Iraq. Make sure you keep track of the France World Cup odds as they progress through the tournament.

Sweden was tough in their first match against Tunisia but when they faced the best team in their group, they lost soundly to the Netherlands. The Blågult now have to contend with one of the most explosive sides in the world. France scored at least three goals in five of their last six matches. We saw Oranje score five on Sweden in group play and that’s not inspiring for their chances here. France scores in bunches and with that in mind, they should win this one by multiple goals. Take Les Bleus -1.5 goals as a result.
Our Prediction: We talked about how France scores by the truckload. With talent like Dembélé, Mbappé and Michael Olise, they’re hard to stop. Meanwhile, Sweden saw six of their previous seven matches end up with at least four goals on the board at the end. Given France’s penchant to score and the fact that Sweden has some capable weapons of their own, look for plenty of offensive fireworks. Take the over in this match as a result. Our Prediction: Over 3.5 Goals (BetMGM, +120)
