As we creep closer to the start of the 2026 World Cup, the matchups and rosters are crystallizing. All 48 sides had to submit their rosters by Monday. Therefore, we know who will be potentially on the pitch for each country when they get ready to start group play next week. Of course, that means that the betting odds are all out there as well. There are some questionable roster picks, injury concerns and plenty of big names ready to take the pitch.

One of the names that France is going to look to as far as contributing is one of the biggest names in the sport in Kylian Mbappé. Let’s take a look at Mbappé and some of the potential numbers that are out there ahead of the start of World Cup play.

Mbappé’s Performance This Season

Mbappé, unlike some of the other big names in the tournament like Portugal’s Cristiano Rona\do or Argenina’s Lionel Messi, still is in the prime of his career. He is 27 and turns 28 in December so it’s safe to say that we’ll see him again on this stage. Mbappé played with Real Madrid of the Spanish La Liga this season, marking his second year with the club. He took part in 31 games, starting 29 of them, and piled up the goals. Mbappé finished with 25 goals and five assists on the year as Real Madrid finished second in the standings. Meanwhile, he led the circuit in goals while cashing in eight of nine penalty kicks.

Mbappé’s World Cup History

This marks Mbappé’s third World Cup run. He was part of the 2018 squad that won the World Cup. In addition, he was a member of the 2022 side that reached the final, only to fall to Messi and Argentina via penalty kicks. Mbappé has been a one-man wrecking crew in World Cup action. He p\ayed 14 matches, starting 12, and has 12 goals and two assists to his credit. Mbappé earned the Silver Ball for his efforts in 2022 as the second-best player in the tournament. He finished with eight goals and two assists in seven matches in that 2022 run.

Kylian Mbappé Odds

To Win the Golden Boot: +600, DraftKings

To Lead France in Goals: -160, DraftKings

Based on the numbers that we mentioned above, it makes sense that the odds bear out that Mbappé is a frontrunner to win the Golden Boot this time around. After all, he won it in 2022 and France is a high-powered squad to say the least. In 97 international matches (82 starts). Mbappé has racked up 56 goals and 34 assists for 90 points. Those are impressive numbers, especially at that level of competition. He has to beat out fellow big scoring threats like England’s Harry Kane. Norway's Erling Haaland and Spain’s Mikel Oyarzabal. There is stiff competition there to be sure. However, we saw Mbappé claim the Golden Boot four years ago. Should France make a deep run as expected, he’ll be in the thick of the race for the award again this time around.

When it comes to leading the France squad in goals, Mbappé is the prohibitive favorite to pull off that feat. Next in line are the trio of Ousmane Dembélé (+600), Michael Olise (+700) and Désiré Doué (+1000) in that category. Of that trio, Dembélé is the only one that was part of the 2022 squad that reached the final. He played in seven matches, failing to score while generating a pair of assists during that run. Olise has four career goals in 16 international appearances while Doué has two goals in six international appearances. Neither have taken the pitch in World Cup action.

Bottom line is simple. Backing Mbappé for the Golden Boot is a decent p\ay. You can a\ways hedge by putting a few bucks on Kane, Messi or Oyarzabal. Backing him to lead France is a sound bet but it may be juiced a little heavier than one may like. Meanwhile, the one thing that we know for sure is that where Mbappé goes, goals inevitably follow.
