As we creep closer to the start of the 2026 World Cup, the matchups and rosters are crystallizing. All 48 sides had to submit their rosters by Monday. Therefore, we know who will be potentially on the pitch for each country when they get ready to start group play next week. Of course, that means that the betting odds are all out there as well. There are some questionable roster picks, injury concerns and plenty of big names ready to take the pitch.

One of the names that Team USA is going to look to as far as contributing is Gio Reyna. Let’s take a look at Reyna and some of the potential numbers that are out there ahead of the start of World Cup play.

Reyna’s Performance This Season

Reyna spent this season with Borussia Mönchengladbach in the German Bundeslinga. He appeared in just 19 of their 34 matches on the year. Reyna started in just four matches while appearing in 15 matches as a reserve. He finished the year with just one goal and failed to record an assist. Reyna finished with seven shot attempts and two shots on target in his efforts. His lone goal came in stoppage time in a 3-1 loss to FC Augsburg May 9.

Reyna’s World Cup History

Reyna was part of Team USA in the 2022 World Cup, which took place in Qatar. He only played in two of the four matches that the Americans played. Reyna came on as a substitute in a scoreless draw with England while not appearing in a 1-1 draw with Wales or a 1-0 win over Iran in group play. He again came on as a substitute in Team USA’s 3-1 defeat to the Netherlands in the round of 16. Reyna logged just 52 minutes of action in the tournament.

Of course, Reyna showed what some considered a lack of maturity back in 2022. Gregg Berhalter, who was the coach of the US Men’s National Team, nearly sent Reyna home because he felt Reyna wasn’t putting forth the required effort in training. Perhaps the four years since that span and having to earn his spot has him in a better mindset than he was in back in 2022.

Gio Reyna Odds

To Win the Golden Boot: +25000

To Lead USA in Goals: +800

Let’s be honest. If you’re taking a shot on either Reyna to win the Golden Boot or lead the USA in goals, you’re pretty much making a donation to your sportsbook of choice. Reyna, as mentioned, scored just once in the Bundeslinga this season. He didn’t tally a goal in 13 appearances (two starts) for Nottingham Forest of the Premier League in 2023-24. In 106 matches, 39 starts, with Borussia Dortmund, Reyna scored a total of 15 goals. For his entire career in club play, he played in 136 matches, recording 43 starts. Reyna has 16 career goals to go with 10 assists. He’s fired 101 shot attempts, of which 42 were on target.

In addition, Reyna is scoreless in 29 appearances in Champions League, Europa League and Club World Cup action. He has five assists to his credit with only 16 shot attempts (three on target) to his credit. Reyna has been more effective as part of the USMNT, scoring six goals in 26 appearances, 17 starts. Of course, all of those goals came in international friendly matches.

As it stands, Reyna is going off with the fifth-best odds to lead Team USA in goals in the World Cup. One would be better suited putting a wager down on Christian Pulisic (+333) or the recently scorching Folarin Balogun (+400) in that department. That becomes even clearer after Mauricio Pochettino stated that he could shift Reyna all over the midfield if yellow card accumulation or injuries become a factor. He’s not as familiar with playing other spots, which impedes his ability to attack.
