Uzbekistan Hoping to Finish Strong

Uzbekistan in the World Cup

In 2026, Uzbekistan made their first World Cup appearance. Therefore, they have a record of no wins, no draws and two losses in World Cup action. Uzbekistan entered the World Cup 50th in the FIFA world rankings. The White Wolves fell 3-1 to Colombia before getting drubbed by Portugal. Uzbekistan is in the basement of the group. The White Wolves need a win here, likely be a large margin, in order to have a shot at advancing to the knockout stages. That’s because their -7 goal differential plays against them here.

Uzbekistan Last Match

Uzbekistan took a beating at the hands of Portugal in their previous match. The White Wolves lost possession by a two-to-one margin in the match. Meanwhile, Uzbekistan lost the expected goals by a 2.61 to 0.24 margin while taking a 9-2 beating in terms of shots on goal in the match. The White Wolves gave up a goal in the sixth minute of the match and never recovered from there. Uzbekistan trailed 3-0 at halftime and it admittedly had the potential to be worse if not for a couple of fortunate bounces. Azizjon Ganiev nearly got Uzbekistan on the board in the 29th minute but it was wiped out after review because of a foul by Abbosbek Fayzullaev.

The second half was much like the first for the White Wolves. They surrendered an own goal by Abduvohid Nematov in the 60th minute, putting them in a 4-0 hole. Uzbekistan never really mounted a threat in the match offensively. As it was, the White Wolves gave up a final goal in the 87th minute to close the scoring. Nematov projects to make his third career World Cup appearance here hoping to finish on a positive note.

DR Congo Seeking to Find a Way to Knockout Round

DR Congo in the World Cup

In 2026, the Léopards make their second World Cup appearance all-time here and their first since 1974. In their history, the DR Congo has a record of no wins, one draw and four losses in World Cup play. The Léopards enter the World Cup ranked 46th in the FIFA world rankings. In group play this go-round, DR Congo battled Portugal to a 1-1 draw before falling to Colombia. The Léopards stand third in the group but they need a win in order to have a shot at advancing to the knockout stage. A draw here won’t get it done as there are a slew of teams with three or more points in the standings.

DR Congo Last Match

Against Colombia, we saw a classic defensive struggle as the DR Congo tried to make things as difficult as possible. The Léopards took a near two-to-one beating in terms of possession in the match. DR Congo fell by a 0.98 to 0.37 margin in terms of expected goals in the match. In addition, they took a 9-1 beating in terms of shots on goal in the contest. The Léopards nearly found themselves down early but caught a break after a VAR review wiped a goal by Colombia off the board in the sixth minute. As a result, the DR Congo managed to go to the half with the match scoreless.

In the second half, the DR Congo continued sputtering offensively while playing sound defensively. The Léopards gave up the go-ahead goal in the 76th minute of play. In addition, the DR Congo was fortunate to have two additional Colombia goals taken off the board, one for a foul and one for an offsides. The Léopards had their best chances in the dying minutes but failed to beat Colombia’s goalkeeper Camilo Vargas. As a result, they ended up on the wrong end of the scoreboard. Lionel Mpasi projects to make his third World Cup appearance between the sticks for the DR Congo here.

Uzbekistan vs. DR Congo Prediction

Both sides know they need a win to have a chance at the knockout stages. With that said, Uzbekistan needs a blowout win as a -7 goal differential isn’t going to win many tiebreakers. On the flip side, DR Congo gets to four points if they win here, which puts them in decent position to earn a spot in the knockout stages. The Léopards are the better side here and they showed they can hang with good teams. Their draw with Portugal is proof of that. Take the DR Congo here to earn the win and keep their hopes of advancing alive.

Our Prediction: DR Congo ML (DraftKings, -130)

Normally, you’d look at these sides and think that offense isn’t a big factor in the match. However, DR Congo knows they need a win which means that they have to take some chances to generate offense. Facing an Uzbekistan squad that surrendered eight goals in their first two matches is a good way to try and get that offense going. The White Wolves could sneak a goal in themselves but this is a chance for the Léopards to put three or so on the board. Take the over in this contest.

Our Prediction: Over 2.5 Goals (BetMGM, -102)
