Paraguay Gunning for an Upset
Paraguay in the World Cup
In 2026, Paraguay makes their ninth appearance in the World Cup but their first since 2010. They are ranked 41st in the FIFA world rankings entering World Cup action. La Albirroja owns a World Cup record of eight wins, 11 draws and 11 defeats as they enter the knockout stages. Their top finish in World Cup action came in their most recent appearance in 2010 as they reached the quarterfinals. Paraguay finished third in Group D with a record of one win, one draw and one loss. Their four points left them tied with Australia for second but the Socceroos owned a better goal differential.
Paraguay Last Match
Against Australia, Paraguay sought a win, which could have clinched second in the group, but wound up with a draw. La Albirroja lost the possession battle by a 56% to 44% margin in the match. In addition, Paraguay lost the expected goals by a 0.55 to 0.24 margin and the shots on goal by a count of 5-2. La Albirroja didn’t do much in terms of possession or creating opportunities offensively in the first half. Meanwhile, Orlando Gill had to be sharp, especially at the end of the half, to keep the match scoreless at halftime.
In the second half, there was much of the same as neither side really threatened offensively. Mauricio had Paraguay’s best scoring chance in the third minute of stoppage time only to be stopped. Meanwhile, Gill needed a stop in the fourth minute of stoppage time to secure the draw and keep the match scoreless. Gill makes his fourth career World Cup appearance in this match for La Albirroja. He has a record of one win, one draw and one loss with two clean sheets on his record in those matches.
Germany Shooting to Reach Round of 16
Germany in the World Cup
In 2026, Germany makes their 21st World Cup appearance overall and their 19th consecutive. They last missed the tournament back in 1950. The Die Mannschaft own an all-time record of 70 wins, 21 draws and 24 losses in their World Cup history. Germany entered the World Cup 10th in the FIFA world rankings as they seek their fifth title. The Die Mannschaft finished group play with a record of two wins, no draws and one loss with their defeat to Ecuador. Germany did manage to win Group E based on their victory over Ivory Coast in group play.
Germany Last Match
Against Ecuador, Germany started strong and then seemingly forgot how to attack aggressively. As a result, they ended up with a loss. The Die Mannschaft owned a 61% to 39% advantage in terms of possession in the match. Meanwhile, Germany lost in expected goals by a 1.27 to 0.65 margin in a match where each team finished with three shots on goal. The Die Mannschaft took an early 1-0 lead almost immediately out of the gate when Leroy Sané scored in the match’s second minute. Florian Wirtz drew the assist on the goal. Germany continued pressing early but conceded the tying goal in the ninth minute of play. There were no further fireworks, leaving the match even at one at halftime.
In the second half, Germany had a penalty kick in the opening moments overturned by a VAR review when it was determined that Sané committed a foul. Sané then had a chance in the 76th minute only to beat his shot into the ground, making it an easy stop for Ecuador goalkeeper Hernán Galíndez. Just a minute later, Ecuador scored to take a 2-1 advantage. Despite pressing, Germany never mustered a serious scoring opportunity the rest of the way and that sent them to defeat. Manuel Neuer makes his 23rd World Cup appearance between the sticks here. He owns a record of 14 wins, two draws and six losses. Neuer has seven clean sheets in World Cup action.
10 x $100 bet match in FanCash Paraguay vs. Germany Prediction
There are two schools of thought as far as things go here. One is that Germany should beat the brakes off Paraguay as they are a much better, deeper, more talented side. They have a ton of weapons and should bury La Albirroja in a blowout. After all, Paraguay scored just twice in group play while Germany rung up 10 goals. The flip side of that is that the Die Mannschaft is flaky defensively. They forget how to attack for long stretches. Neuer has conceded more goals (four) than made saves (three) in group play. Germany hasn’t turned in a clean sheet in NINE straight World Cup matches. Paraguay isn’t great but that’s a stat one can’t overlook.
Our Prediction: Both Teams to Score (DraftKings, +105)
Germany has the ability to score in bunches. As mentioned, they scored 10 goals in group play. Granted, seven of them came in their opening win over Curaçao but they did score a pair against Ivory Coast as well. They should tally multiple goals in this contest as Paraguay conceded four goals to the United States. Meanwhile, they turned in clean sheets in their other two matches. It’s safe to say Germany is better offensively than the Stars and Stripes. As a result, take the over in this match as well.
Our Prediction: Over 2.5 Goals (DraftKings, -140)
