Norway in the World Cup

In 2026, Norway makes their fourth World Cup appearance overall and their first appearance since 1998. The Landslaget enter this match holding a record of four wins, three draws and four losses. Norway enters this match ranked 31st in the FIFA rankings. The Landslaget finished group play with a record of two wins, no draws and one loss. They finished second in Group I, behind France, but were one of the more entertaining sides as their matches were high-scoring. In group play, Norway scored eight goals while conceding seven.

Norway Last Match

Against France, Norway made the decision to sit key players like Erling Haaland to keep them fresh for the knockout stages. As a result, they took a sound beating at the hands of Les Bleus. Norway lost possession by a 57% to 43% margin in the contest. In addition, the Landslaget lost the shots on goal by a 9-4 margin while winning the expected goals by a 1.70 to 1.50 margin in the match. Norway was on their heels early, giving up a shot off the bar in the opening minute of the match. The Landslaget gave up a goal in the seventh minute and trailed 2-0 after 20 minutes of play. Thelo Aasgaard got one back for Norway in the 21st minute. Andreas Schjelderup assisted on the goal, which came off immediately after the kickoff following the second French goal.

That proved as close as Norway got in the match as France scored again in the 32nd minute to take a 3-1 advantage. At half, that remained the score. Norway had a chance early in the second half to get back in the match but Jørgen Strand Larsen was stopped on a penalty kick in the 50th minute. The Landslaget didn’t have much in the way of opportunities after that and France scored in stoppage time to salt the match away. Ørjan Nyland makes his third World Cup appearance in this contest for the Landslaget after not playing in the group finale.

Norway vs. Ivory Coast Prediction

This is going to be one of the tightest matches in the round of 32 as we have two sides with vastly different styles. Norway is a high-scoring team with Haaland leading the way. Meanwhile, Ivory Coast is a team that tends to control possession but they aren’t a big offensive side. Norway scored eight goals in group play while Ivory Coast had just four. We know that the Landslaget has some issues defensively though with Haaland, they are dangerous offensively. Haaland proves to be the difference as he carries Norway through to the round of 16.

Our Prediction: Norway ML (DraftKings, +110)

With Norway’s ability to do damage offensively, you know it’s not a matter of if, but when, they’re going to score. The Landslaget scored in each of their three group stage matches, even without Haaland on the pitch against France. Meanwhile, we discussed Norway’s defensive issues as they surrendered seven goals in group play. They gave up a goal in each of their three group matches, which included surrendering Iraq’s lone goal. That means Ivory Coast should be able to find their way to score at least once. Therefore, take both teams to score in this contest.

Our Prediction: Both Teams to Score (DraftKings, -145)
