Norway Looking to Earn Spot in Quarterfinals

Norway in the World Cup

In 2026, Norway makes their fourth World Cup appearance overall and their first appearance since 1998. The Landslaget enter this match holding a record of four wins, three draws and four losses. Norway enters this match ranked 31st in the FIFA rankings. The Landslaget finished group play with a record of two wins, no draws and one loss. They finished second in Group I, behind France, but were one of the more entertaining sides as their matches were high scoring.

Norway Last Match

Norway rested their stars in their group finale against France to prepare for the knockout rounds and it helped them get past the Ivory Coast in the round of 32. The Landslaget controlled possession by a 53% to 47% margin in the contest. In addition, the Landslaget lost the shots on goal by a 5-4 margin while winning the expected goals by a 1.90 to 1.39 margin in the match. In the first half, after a slow start with limited good scoring chances, Norway seized the lead in the 39th minute. Antonio Nusa converted a feed from Martin Ødegaard, blasting a shot into the top right corner for a 1-0 advantage. That proved to be the score at the half.

In the second half, both teams had chances before the hydration break but the score remained 1-0. Ivory Coast got the equalizer in the 74th minute, shortly after a couple of substitutions by Norway. After that goal, Norway turned up the pressure, controlling possession for long stretches and it paid dividends. Erling Haaland gave the Landslaget the lead in the 86th minute off a feed from Patrick Berg. Ørjan Nyland made a couple big saves down the stretch, including saving a free kick in the 97th minute, to preserve the victory. Nyland makes his fourth World Cup appearance in this contest for Norway.

Brazil Shoot to Take Care of Business

Brazil in the World Cup

In 2026, Brazil makes their 23rd consecutive appearance in World Cup play. They have five titles to boot. The Seleçao owns an impressive record with 78 wins, 20 draws and 19 defeats in their 117 World Cup matches. They enter the World Cup ranked sixth in the most recent FIFA rankings. Brazil won Group C with a record of two wins, one draw and no losses. The Seleçao is the benchmark to which all countries hope to measure up to when it comes to World Cup success.

Brazil Last Match

Against Japan, Brazil found themselves trailing at halftime before rallying to beat the Samurai Blue in the round of 32. The Seleçao won the possession by a 69% to 31% margin in the contest. In addition, Brazil dominated the expected goals by a 2.07 to 0.33 margin while owning a 7-2 advantage in terms of shots on goal in the match. Despite all those advantages, Brazil struggled to get much going despite owning a massive edge in possession. The Seleçao gave up the opening goal in the 29th minute and trailed by that 1-0 margin at the half.

In the second half, Brazil pushed the pressure and it paid dividends. Casemiro scored in the 56th minute of play to tie the match off an assist from Gabriel Magalhães. Vinicius Junior hit the post in the 60th minute that could have given the Seleçao the lead. After the teams played cautiously for an extended period, the match was deep into stoppage time before something changed. Gabriel Martinelli scored in the 95th minute off an assist from Bruno Guimarães to give Brazil the lead. They held on the rest of the way to earn the victory. Alisson Becker projects to make his 14th World Cup start between the sticks in this contest. He owns a record of nine wins, three draws and one loss in those contests. In addition, he has seven clean sheets to his credit.

Norway vs. Brazil Predictions

Norway vs. Brazil Side Prediction

Brazil was tested seriously by Japan and they were fortunate to come up with the victory in stoppage time. The Seleçao now have to contend with a Norway side that is tough, physical and capable of winning high-scoring affairs. Trying to shut down Haaland, Ødegaard and Alexander Sorloth is going to be a challenge for Brazil, especially factoring in their size. Brazil showed grit rallying to beat Japan but their luck runs out here. Take Norway to advance here, be it in regulation, extra time or after penalties.

Our Prediction: Norway to Advance (FanDuel, +205)

Norway vs. Brazil Over/Under Prediction

We’ve seen Norway in nothing but high-scoring affairs in the World Cup. The Landslaget’s matches in the World Cup have seen five, five, five and three goals. That gives Norway an average of 4.50 goals per match in the tournament. Meanwhile, Brazil has totals of two, three, three and three goals in their four World Cup matches. Both sides are capable of putting multiple goals on the board in this match. Take the over tin this contest as we see at least three goals on the board, if not more, by the time this one is over.

Our Prediction: Over 2.5 Goals (BetMGM, -135)

Norway vs. Brazil Player Prediction

Sometimes the best bets are the most obvious ones and that’s the case here. Haaland has five goals in the World Cup and has put nine of his 14 shot attempts on goal in the tournament. We saw him come up with the winner against Ivory Coast in the round of 32. Haaland has scored in 13 straight matches for the national team, scoring 25 goals in that span. Brazil isn’t going to be able to keep Haaland in check and we saw him score despite being limited as far as touches against Ivory Coast. He finds a way to put another one on the board.

Our Prediction: Erling Haaland Anytime Goalscorer (FanDuel, +130)
