Ghana Seeking to Take Top Spot in Group L

Ghana earned their spot in the World Cup as they won CAF qualifying group I with a record of eight wins, one draw and one loss. The Black Stars outscored the opposition 23-6 in those matches to punch their ticket to the World Cup. Ghana earned their fifth World Cup appearance and their second consecutive here. The Black Stars enter this match owning a record of six victories, three draws and seven losses in World Cup play. Ghana entered the World Cup ranked 73rd in the FIFA world rankings, a one-spot jump from the previous rankings.

Against Panama, Ghana was without Thomas Partey, who was denied a visa by the Canadian government, but managed a win. The Black Stars lost the possession battle by slightly more than a three-to-two margin in the contest. In addition, Ghana lost the shot attempts by an 11-7 margin and the shots on goal by a 4-2 margin in the match. The Black Stars saw Panama have the early momentum but weathered the storm. That helped keep things scoreless at the half. In the second half, the teams seemed poised for a scoreless draw before Ghana got a goal late. Caleb Yirenkyi scored in the fifth minute of stoppage time to give the Black Stars a 1-0 lead. Brandon Thomas-Asante assisted on the goal after a fast break. Ghana stopped a last ditch effort by Panama to secure the victory.

Benjamin Asare makes his second World Cup appearance between the sticks here for Ghana. He made six appearances during World Cup qualifying. Asare had a record of five wins, one draw and no losses. In addition, he recorded five clean sheets in those contests.

England Shoots to Remain Unbeaten

England obliterated the competition in qualification UEFA Group K as they rolled to eight wins in as many matches, outscoring the opposition 22-0. In addition, the Three Lions log their 17th World Cup appearance and their eighth straight as they take the pitch here. They last missed the World Cup back in 1994. The Three Lions own a record of 33 wins, 22 draws and 20 losses in World Cup play entering this contest after doubling up Croatia in their opener. England went into the World Cup ranked fourth in the FIFA world rankings.

Against Croatia, England was flying offensively and that overshadowed their defensive lapses to carry them to a win. The Three Lions owned a narrow 51.7% to 48.3% edge in terms of possession in the match. England controlled the shot attempts by a 22-10 margin and an 11-5 margin in terms of shots on goal in the match. Harry Kane opened the scoring in the 12th minute on a penalty kick. After Croatia knotted the match in the 36th minute, Kane gave England a 2-1 lead with his second goal of the match in the 42nd minute. Declan Rice assisted on the marker as he had a cross off a corner. The Three Lions allowed the equalizer in extra time, sending the match to the half knotted at two. Almost immediately after the break, Jude Bellingham gave England a 3-2 lead in the 47th minute. Elliott Anderson assisted on the goal.

After the teams traded chances for an extended period, Marcus Rashford gave England an insurance marker in the 85th minute. Bukayo Saka assisted on that marker. Jordan Pickford projects for his 14th start in World Cup play here. He owns a record of eight wins, one draw and four losses in those contests. In addition, Pickford has four clean sheets in those outings. Keep an eye on England’s World Cup odds throughout the tournament!

Ghana vs. England Prediction

This is a matchup of the top two teams in Group L after the first round of group play. Ghana managed to slide past Panama in their opener on that stoppage time goal. It’s safe to say that they would be extremely fortunate to be in a similar situation here. The Black Stars don’t have the firepower to keep up with England’s attack. In addition, their defensive strategy won’t be able to slow down Kane and company here. It’s a safe bet that the Three Lions roll onto the knockout stages by cruising to the victory in this one. Take England as a result. Another safe bet is England to go over their team total as they win going away.
