Ghana Trying to Pick Up Victory

Ghana in the World Cup

In 2026, Ghana makes their fifth World Cup appearance and their second consecutive here. The Black Stars enter this match owning a record of six victories, four draws and eight losses in World Cup play. Ghana entered the World Cup ranked 73rd in the FIFA world rankings, a one-spot jump from the previous rankings. The Black Stars finished group play with a record of one win, one draw and one loss for four points. They finished third in Group L but qualified for knockout stages as one of the eight best third-place sides in the field.

Ghana Last Match

Ghana was locked in a defensive struggle with Croatia in their group play finale. The Black Stars fell in terms of possession by a 53% to 47% margin in the match. In addition, Ghana lost the shots on goal by a 4-1 margin though they did own a 0.64 to 0.42 advantage in terms of expected goals. That means some misfortune befell the Black Stars in the match. In the opening half, Ghana caught a break when Croatia hit the post in the 17th minute. They weren’t as fortunate later in the first half as Croatia took a 1-0 advantage by scoring in the 31st minute of play. That was the score at intermission as well.

In the second half, Ghana maintained possession for long stretches and managed to see it pay dividends. Derrick Luckassen knotted the match in the 73rd minute of play off a feed from Ernest Nuamah. The goal was initially waved off for offside but the call was reversed after a VAR review. Unfortunately, Ghana struggled to maintain that momentum and they gave up the go-ahead goal in the 83rd minute of play. The Black Stars couldn’t sustain a push the rest of the way and took the loss as a result. Benjamin Asare makes his fourth World Cup appearance between the sticks here for Ghana. He has a record of one win, one draw and one loss with a pair of clean sheets to his credit in World Cup play.

Colombia Seeking to Punch Ticket to Round of 16

Colombia in the World Cup

In 2026, Colombia makes their seventh World Cup appearance all-time and return to the field after missing in 2022. Los Cafeteros own an all-time record of 11 wins, four draws and 10 losses in World Cup play. Colombia entered the World Cup ranked 13th in the FIFA world rankings. Los Cafeteros finished group play with a record of two wins, one draw and no losses for seven points. As a result, Colombia won Group K by two points over Portugal to punch their ticket to the knockout stages.

Colombia Last Match

Colombia was in a defensive struggle in their match with Portugal and their efforts led to a scoreless draw. Los Cafeteros owned a 55% to 45% advantage in terms of possession in the match. Colombia also held a 1.70 to 0.93 edge in terms of expected goals and a 6-2 advantage in terms of shots on goal in the match. In the first half, Colombia had a prime scoring chance in the second minute only to see Luis Díaz stopped. Jhon Arias had another good chance in the 22nd minute only to come up empty. Los Cafeteros prevented Portugal from doing any damage and that left the match scoreless at halftime.

In the second half, Jefferson Lerma and Arias had chances back-to-back in the 55th minute only to be stopped by Diogo Costa. Los Cafeteros had more chances, including a pair back-to-back in the 66th and 67th minutes by Gabriel Puerta and Arias. Davinson Sánchez looked that he had scored the match’s first goal in the 91st minute but it was wiped out for offside on a VAR review. The replays showed he was offside by a toe. Shortly thereafter, the match ended and the teams went off scoreless. Camilo Vargas made a big stop late to secure the win. He projects between the sticks as he makes his fourth World Cup appearance. Vargas has a record of two wins, one draw and no losses with two clean sheets on the ledger.

Ghana vs. Colombia Prediction

This one is going to be a test of wills. Ghana is a side that is content to grind things out defensively and play in a shell, making things difficult for an attacking side. The Black Stars completely flustered England in a scoreless draw during group play and they’ll test Colombia’s resolve. Meanwhile, Colombia surrendered just one goal during group play. They’ll probe the defense and take their chances in the offensive end when they get them. This has the makings of a 1-0 type of match with these two teams. Take the under as a result.

Our Prediction: Under 2.5 Goals (Fanatics, -145)

When you’re looking at a low-scoring affair, you have to think about the guys that are the most dangerous offensively. In this match, that leads to Luis Díaz. He had a chance early against Portugal and has plenty of experience putting the ball in the net. Díaz had 15 goals and 14 assists for Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga this season. In national team play, he has 23 goals in 77 matches. Meanwhile, Díaz has a goal and an assist in his three matches during this World Cup. If someone scores in this match, you have to think Díaz is a prime candidate to do just that.

Our Prediction: Luis Díaz Anytime Goalscorer (Fanatics, +165)
