In the second half, Egypt had a couple chances early but had to hang on for dear life late to earn the draw. The Pharoahs gave up a shot that hit the post in the 89th minute. In addition, they gave up what appeared to be the go-ahead goal in the 93rd minute only to earn a reprieve as a VAR review determined that Iran was offside. Let’s be perfectly blunt here. Offense isn’t the name of the game for either side here. Australia saw five of their last 11 matches end with just one total goal on the board. Five straight haven’t seen more than two goals on the board. Egypt has seen two goals or less in four of their last six matches and scored one goal or fewer in five of those. Expecting much more than that here is foolhardy. Playing the under is the safe play. You can potentially play under 1.5 goals at plus money but taking the under 2.5 gives you the cushion if the match is 1-1 going to penalties.
Our Prediction: Under 2.5 Goals (FanDuel, -160)
In a low-scoring affair, anything involving a scoring threat is a dart throw. If one is going to take a shot on someone, backing Mohamed Salah is a solid option. He has one goal and two assists with seven shots (three on goal) in the group stage. That gives him a hand in three of Egypt’s five goals in group play. Salah is a primary option in terms of taking penalties for the Pharaohs and he is also a factor in free kick situations. If Egypt finds the back of the net, expect him to be involved in some form or fashion.
Our Prediction: Mohamed Salah To Score or Assist (FanDuel, +115)
