Bosnia-Herzegovina Seeking to Upend Host Country

Bosnia-Herzegovina in the World Cup

In 2026, Bosnia-Herzegovina qualified for the World Cup for just the second time and the first since 2014. The Dragons own an all-time record of two wins, one draw and three losses in World Cup play. Bosnia-Herzegovina is 64th in the most recent FIFA world rankings. The Dragons finished group play with a record of one win, one draw and one loss. They finished with four points and were third in Group B. On virtue of those four points, they finished as one of the eight best third-place sides to advance to the knockout rounds.

Bosnia-Herzegovina Last Match

Against Qatar, Bosnia-Herzegovina knew they needed a win to give themselves a shot at advancing and got just that. The Dragons owned a slim 54% to 46% in terms of possession in the match. In addition, Bosnia-Herzegovina held a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal despite falling by a 0.77 to 0.68 margin in terms of expected goals in the match. In the opening half, Bosnia-Herzegovina maintained solid pressure in the offensive zone but had nothing to show for it early. Kerim Alajbegovic broke the scoreless draw in the 29th minute as Ivan Basic drew the assist. The Dragons pushed the margin to 2-0 in the 34th minute on an own goal by Qatar keeper Mahmoud Abunada. Qatar did get one back to make it a 2-1 score in the 42nd minute. The Dragone were fortunate to hold that margin at halftime after Qatar hit the post in extra time.

In the second half, Bosnia-Herzegovina weathered the storm early as Qatar battled for the equalizer. After a flurry of substitutions, the Dragons restored their two-goal margin by tallying in the 80th minute. Ermin Mahmic scored the goal off a feed from Dennis Hadzikadunic. Qatar had a couple good chances in stoppage time but were turned away, sending the Dragons to victory. Nikola Vasilj projects between the sticks again here for his fourth career World Cup appearance.

United States Try to Shrug Off Last-Minute Defeat

United States in the World Cup

In 2026, the United States made their 12th appearance all time in World Cup action. It’s their second straight World Cup appearance. They’ve missed just once since 1990 with that coming in 2018. Entering the World Cup, the Stars and Stripes are 17th in the FIFA world rankings. All-time, they own a record of 11 wins, eight draws and 21 losses in World Cup play. The United States finished group play with a record of two wins, no losses and one draw. They finished atop Group D with six points to advance to the knockout stages.

United States Last Match

Against Türkiye in their group stage finale, the United States had nothing to play for as they had clinched the top spot in the group. As a result, they shuffled their lineup and kept some of their key players out of heavy rotation in an effort to avoid injury. The Stars and Stripes held a slim 53% to 47% margin in terms of possession in the match. In addition, the United States owned a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal despite losing in expected goals by a 3.01 to 2.13 margin in the match. Auston Trusty got the Stars and Stripes off on the right foot in the third minute as he scored off a feed from Sebastian Berhalter. That lead didn’t last long as Türkiye tied the score in the 10th minute.

The United States had a goal in the 30th minute disallowed on an offside call. Just a minute later, Türkiye scored again to take a 2-1 lead and that was the score at the half. Early in the second half, Berhalter leveled the score as he took advantage of a Türkiye miscue on a clearance attempt to find the net. The Stars and Stripes had a couple more glorious chances only to be thwarted, keeping the score level. That proved costly as Türkiye scored in the 98th minute to earn the victory. Matt Freese, who came up a winner in his first two World Cup matches, projects between the sticks for the Stars and Stripes again. Check out the United States’ World Cup odds!

Bosnia-Herzegovina vs. United States Prediction

We’ve seen Bosnia-Herzegovina struggle in the defensive end of the field. The Dragons conceded goals in all three of their group stage matches, including a quartet of them to Switzerland. Meanwhile, the Stars and Stripes tallied eight goals in group play, including scoring at least two goals in each match. Christian Pulisic logged the final 30 minutes or so in the match with Türkiye while Folarin Balogun didn’t play at all. The Dragons have only one clean sheet in their last 11 matches and that’s problematic. On the flip side, the United States go back to Freese here but he is prone to giving up goals himself. Take both teams to score here as the top option on the board.

Our Prediction: Both Teams to Score (DraftKings, +100)

Since we’re rolling with both teams to score, that means we’re expecting some offensive fireworks in this match. As mentioned previously, Bosnia-Herzegovina struggles to defend and had no clean sheets in the group stage. While Freese had a clean sheet against Australia, he conceded one goal to Paraguay. In addition, he has just four clean sheets in 17 appearances with the Stars and Stripes. Look for a 2-1 or 3-1 type of match here so rolling with the over on goals is a sound bet.

Our Prediction: Over 2.5 Goals (DraftKings, -135)
