The Word On Sierra Leone
Apr. 6: Sat in last of 10 horses for much of the Blue Grass Stakes before closing eight lengths in the last 1/4 mile. Still five lengths off at 1/8 mile, he took to the outside and passed the entire field, winning by a length.
Apr. 7: Closed the second favorite (7-1) in the Kentucky Derby Futures Pool 6 behind Fierceness. That number may drop leading up to post.
Apr. 25: “He did great this morning (at the gate),” trainer Chad Brown said Thursday. Sierra Leone delayed the start of the Blue Grass Stakes by being reluctant to load in the gate in front of the Keeneland grandstand.
Apr. 27: Opened at 3-1, the second favorite behind Fierceness, on the morning line. Sierra Leone will run out of Post 2.
