Sha’Carri Richardson Favored In Women’s 100M Odds

Jamaican star Shericka Jackson announced Wednesday she would not be running in the 100m, focusing on the 200m entirely. Jackson was Richardson’s biggest competition in the odds for gold. Now, Richardson has moved out to an even bigger favorite.

Richardson rates as the odds-on favorite in the women’s 100-meter run, according to the betting market. Her odds place her around 70% implied probability to win the gold medal.

The Dallas-born dasher has had a bit of a star-crossed career. Things did not get off to an auspicious start as she completely missed out on competing in the Tokyo Games due to a controversial marijuana suspension. She rebounded with the aforementioned double gold at the 2023 Worlds, along with a bronze in 200 meters.

Now 24, she undoubtedly enters the Paris Games feeling considerable pressure to put the Tokyo mess behind her.

Julien Alfred and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce are expected to provide the main competition. Here’s how those athletes compared at the World Championships:

  • Richardson 10.65s (first place)
  • Fraser-Pryce 10.77s (third place)
  • Alfred 10.93s (fifth place)

Ivory Coast’s Marie-Josee Ta Lou finished fourth in that event.

Will Richardson Compete in 4×100 Relay?

If the U.S. women are to repeat their World Championship performance and take gold in the 4×100 relay, expect Richardson to play a key role. She anchored that run with the U.S. topping Jamaica by 0.11 seconds.

The team hasn’t been announced yet, but Richardson figures to compete along with Gabby Thomas, Twanisha Terry, and Tamari Davis.

Look for another duel between the Americans and the Jamaicans here, with Britain and France expected to battle to round out the podium.

Richardson’s main showcase in the 100-meter begins on Friday. However, note that since it takes place in the very early morning hours, you’ll want to get any bets in by Thursday.
