Monday Night Football Preview

The spread for this contest has been on the move plenty since it opened as Seahawks +3 in the look-ahead line late last week. The Saints were on bye in Week 6, so nothing they did affected the trajectory of the number, but Seattle’s first full game under Geno Smith as the starter apparently did. Smith was actually serviceable in a Sunday night road start versus a tough Steelers defense, but a late fumble on a strip sack led to Pittsburgh’s overtime win. The offense also struggled to move the ball in the first half under Smith.

The total unsurprisingly opened modestly and has only gone down since that point. With oddsmakers anticipating a Jameis Winston-Smith matchup in terms of starting quarterbacks, the number opened at 44 points late last week. Bettors then took over and have whittled the figure all the way down to 42.5 at multiple sportsbooks. The over under is now 41.5.

  • The Saints are 3-2 (60.0 percent) against the spread this season, including 2-1 (66.7 percent) as a road team and 2-2 in conference games. The Over is 2-3 (40.0 percent) in New Orleans’ games this season, including 1-2 (33.3 percent) in its away contests and 2-2 in its conference games.
  • The Seahawks are 3-3 against the spread this season, including 0-2 as a home team and 1-2 (33.3 percent) in conference games. The Over is 1-4-1 (20.0 percent) in Seattle’s games this season, including 1-1 in its home games and 0-3 in its games against conference opponents.
