There are 17 players in the RSM Classic field that rank top 50 in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) after 11 combined top 50 OWGR players competed in the last two years of the event.

Notable golfers in the RSM Classic

Tyler Duncan won his first PGA Tour title in the 2019-20 season RSM Classic (this year’s tournament is for the 2020-21 season). Duncan won on the second playoff hole over Webb Simpson after each player tied at 19-under par.

Both Duncan and Simpson return for this year’s RSM Classic.

Other recent RSM Classic winners returning include:

  • Charles Howell (2019)
  • Austin Cook (2018)
  • Mackenzie Hughes (2017)
  • Kevin Kisner (2016)

Major champions in the field include:

  • Jason Day
  • Zach Johnson
  • Shane Lowry
  • Justin Rose
  • Henrik Stenson
  • Webb Simpson
  • Louis Oosthuizen
  • Jason Dufner
  • Lucas Glover
  • Danny Willett

Tyrrell Hatton and Webb Simpson are currently ranked top 10 in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR). Tommy Fleetwood, Louis Oosthuizen, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Sungjae Im and recent CJ Cup in Las Vegas winner Jason Kokrak are top 25 in the OWGR. Sungjae Im is coming off a top-5 finish at The Masters. Other notable players in the top 50 include Shane Lowry, Justin Rose, Matt Kuchar, Kevin Kisner, Harris English, Jason Day, Joaquin Niemann, Brendon Todd, MacKenzie Hughes and Ian Poulter.

Also, recent Corales Puntacana Championship longshot winner Hudson Swafford is in the field, along with major champion and recent Safeway Open winner Stewart Cink. The recent Shriners Hospitals for Children Open winner in Las Vegas, Martin Laird, is also playing in The RSM Classic – as is recent Bermuda Championship longshot winner, 48-year-old Brian Gay.

Sea Island, Georgia residents Chris Kirk and Brian Harman are in the field, and join other Sea Island residents Zach Johnson, Harris English and Kevin Kisner. Longtime PGA Tour Pro Davis Love is also a Sea Island resident, and in 2010 the Davis Love Foundation partnered with the PGA Tour to become the host organization of The RSM Classic.

Players who finished Top-10 in last year’s RSM Classic and are returning include:

  • Webb Simpson (-19)
  • Sebastian Munoz (-18)
  • Brendon Todd (-16)
  • K.H. Lee (-15)
  • Denny McCarthy (-14)
  • Brian Stuard (-13)

The Seaside Course is a hidden gem that plays firm and fast and has the oldest TifEagle greens on tour (21 years). It’s a Scottish links course, near the Atlantic with ocean views. The course meanders through marshlands and lakes with water or marshes coming in play on most of the holes.

The PGA Tour pros have been playing the seaside course since 2010, and accuracy off the tee is a premium this week. Strategically placed old fashioned bunkers (47) will catch less accurate drives and wayward shots.

The first nine goes out and back, in a counterclockwise fashion while the second nine follows a clockwise direction. Each of the four par-3s faces its unique direction, so players get a different feel on each par 3 when it’s windy – which is always the case at Sea Island.

Key stats

As you evaluate Strokes Gained stats, look towards SG: Off-the-Tee, and also Tee-to-Green. Know that more players will have stronger Greens-in-Regulation stats on this course, with its larger than average green sizes (7,200 sq. feet).

Using stats from Fantasy National and rankings of the players in this field, the top Tee-to-Green players over their last 24 rounds include:

  • Russell Henley
  • Harold Varner
  • Webb Simpson
  • Sam Burns
  • Keegan Bradley
  • Joaquin Niemann

  • Martin Laird
  • Tyrrell Hatton
