Puerto Rico Open Bets: Best PGA TOUR Golf Odds & Expert Picks

The “Oppo Slam” is a feat every golf bettor strives for, but few have successfully achieved it. In 2023, the Puerto Rico Open was the one Opposite Field event that alluded me, as I otherwise successfully landed outright winners at the Corales Puntacana Championship, Barbasol Championship, and Barracuda Championship. This week, we have a shot at redemption and an opportunity to hold outright tickets for all four standing Opposite Field event winners. With history at stake, let’s dive into my 2024 Puerto Rico Open bets.

PUERTO RICO OPEN BETTING OVERVIEW
A long par-72 standing at 7,506 yards and highly susceptible to the wind, Grand Reserve Golf Club is one of the purest examples of a Bomber’s Paradise on the PGA TOUR.
The list of former champions backs that notion up as well, as bombers like Ryan Brehm, Viktor Hovland, Martin Trainer, and Tony Finau have used their sheer length to pick this course apart en route to their respective victories here. With negligible rough on the property, this end-to-end Bermuda layout does not offer much of an advantage for fairway finders.
In terms of Comp Courses, Vidanta Vallarta is a near-perfect representation of the style of play we should expect from Grand Reserve. Both are long coastal resort courses heavily exposed to the wind with little penalty for wayward tee shots and a distinct advantage for longer hitters. Tony Finau has notably won across both venues, and other resort specialists like Brandon Wu, Nate Lashley, and Patrick Rodgers have demonstrated consistent overlapping success. In addition to Vidanta Vallarta, El Cardonal at Diamonte, Corales, and Kapalua each serve as strong comps, rewarding bombers on open, coastal layouts.
Though not relying on a formal model for this event, I’ve looked to players with proven course and comp course history and elite driving distance when constructing my 2024 Puerto Rico Open card.

MY BETTING CARD: HOW I BUILT MY Puerto Rico Open BETS
I don’t intend to watch much of the Puerto Rico Open at all this week unless I have a Sunday sweat, so I don’t feel compelled to throw in any entertainment bets like FRL. I also didn’t research this event nearly extensively enough to feel safe around any conviction props. With that said, I feel great about some of the betting value available in the outright market this week in an event in which so few players are seen as capable of closing out. So, I’ll have my full exposure for the week from an outright perspective (3.5U total to pay out 25U each).
Here is a quick breakdown of the bets I landed on for the 2024 Puerto Rico Open. Best of luck with your bets this week!

PUERTO RICO OPEN BETS: OUTRIGHTS (3.5 UNITS)
Daniel Berger
My Bet: +2200
Best Odds Still Available:
Whether it be his wins at Colonial or Pebble Beach, Berger has shown he’s at his best when faced with windy conditions. By far the most accomplished and decorated player in this field, Berger took the Anti-Anthony Kim route and appears to have waited until he was tournament-ready before returning from his extended absence due to injury. His ball striking has looked sharp over his first four starts of the 2024 season, and he should return to Puerto Rico with good vibes, having finished T2 in his only prior appearance.
Brandon Wu
My Bet: +3500
Best Odds Still Available:
A simple Course & Comp Course History play, immediate form doesn’t seem to matter for Wu when you place him on a windy, long, and coastal resort course. In five career starts between this event and the Mexico Open at Vidanta, Wu has finished T2, T3, 3rd, T7, and T13.
Cameron Champ
My Bet: +4500
Best Odds Still Available:
A T24 at the Mexico Open two starts ago was all the indication I needed that Champ’s game is not completely lost. Grand Reserve will not penalize Champ for his lack of accuracy, so he’ll be starting on second base as one of the longest drivers on TOUR. He also happens to be one of the most experienced closers in this field with three PGA TOUR wins since 2019.
Harry Hall
My Bet: +6000
Best Odds Still Available:
A long hitter with spike-putting upside, Hall is a very solid course fit for Grand Reserve. He proved that out in his 2023 debut with an impressive T7 showing. A T10 finish at the 2023 Mexico Open at Vidanta further supports his affinity for this style of golf course.
Alejandro Tosti
My Bet: +7500
Best Odds Still Available:
Another bomber with proven success on coastal resort courses, I was surprised to see the Argentinian slip this far down the board. The PGA TOUR rookie has gotten off to a bit of a slow start in 2024 despite being one of the best young drivers in the game. Grand Reserve’s generous layout should cater well to his strength of driving and putting.
Hayden Springer
My Bet: +9000
Best Odds Still Available:
My favorite sleeper play this week, Springer jumps off the page with his Ball Speed, similar to Jake Knapp’s profile leading into his Mexico Open victory. Like Knapp, Springer is a multi-winner on the Canadian Tour, picking up two of those wins within his last seven starts. With a pair of top-40s over his last two PGA TOUR starts, he’s shown he has more to his game than just the driver.
